Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which decade did Rube die?

Answer: 1920's

It is implied during the series that at one point in his life, Rube tried to rob a bank. The exact year of his death is in dispute among "DLM" fans because, although officially given as 1926, George claims that he died in 1927.
2. When he died, Rube left behind a wife and a son.

Answer: False

When he died, Rube left behind a wife and a daughter. His daughter, Rosie, was the apple of his eye. An older Rosie appears in the second season episode "Always".
3. What does Rube call George?

Answer: "Peanut"

This is the same nickname he used for his young daughter, Rosie. See, I told you Rube really cared about his crew!
4. In a second season episode, Rube visits an elderly woman in a nursing home. What is the title of the song he sings her?

Answer: "Always"

The old lady is his daughter Rosie. Also, the title of the episode, "Always" was sung softly to Rosie shortly before Penny Reaped her. Rosie correctly identified her father even though Reapers do not have the same physical appearance in death as they did in life.
5. What occupation does Rube briefly take on upon the death of a minor character?

Answer: Line cook

In "A Cook", Rube takes over as the line cook for Der Waffle Haus, where the group meets to get their assignments. After the cook, Angus Cook (John Kapelos) dies, Rube feels guilty and tries to take his spot.
6. Which actor played Rube?

Answer: Mandy Patinkin

Mandy Patinkin has also been in "Criminal Minds" on CBS and "Chicago Hope". For more information, check out my quiz on him: "Are You A Patinkin Professional?"
7. Rube smokes a pipe.

Answer: True

In the episode "Vacation", the Reapers use their one day off to catch up on paperwork. When George suggests that they use Happy Time's computers to make the work easier and quicker, Rube is initially hostile. Later on, he is seen lighting up even though he sees a No Smoking sign.
8. In one episode we are introduced to Penny, a former co-worker of Rube's. What disaster did she perish in?

Answer: The Titanic's sinking

Because she drowned in ice cold water, Penny has developed an aversion to ice; she won't even have ice in her sodas! She now works with Natural Causes, but she used to work with Rube in External Influences.
9. Which episode did Mason make this claim? "Robe's so old, he probably reaped Jesus!"

Answer: "Rites of Passage"

In "Rites of Passage", George has to reap a rock singer and Mason reaps the rock singer's killer. "Send in the Clown" was the first episode of the second season, and "Nighthawks" aired late in the first season.
10. Rube's middle name is John.

Answer: True

Rube's full name was not revealed until halfway into the second season. Until then, he was only known by his first name. It is also known that Rube is from New York, and came from a Jewish family.
