Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 1, only one team completed the 'Pot' Detour task in Malaysia. Who was it?

Answer: Ernie and Jeena

In Leg 1 of the race, teams raced through Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, their starting city, and eventually found their way to Kompleks Kraf. Here, teams found the first Detour a choice between 'Paint' and 'Pot'. In 'Paint', teams needed to work together to trace, wax, and paint a traditional batik painting as per an exemplar to receive their next clue.

In 'Pot', teams had to sculpt a clay pot with one member forming the bowl and the other controlling the wheel. Only Ernie and Jeena chose this latter task while the other nine teams decided to choose 'Paint'.
2. In Leg 2, teams completed their Detour task in Jakarta, Indonesia. How many of the ten teams completed the 'Push' option with their bakso carts?

Answer: Nine

Heading through Indonesia's capital in Leg 2, teams needed to make their way from Taman Mini Indonesia Indah to Panglima Polim Street to complete a Detour task, either 'Push' or 'Sell'. In 'Push', teams needed to push a cart full of bakso ingredients along a half-kilometer course through the streets of Jakarta while singing "Abang Tukang Bakso". Should they fail to sing for the entire route or accidentally spill from a large bowl of soy sauce, they would need to complete the route again.

In 'Sell', teams needed to sell fifteen bowls of bakso from their cart at a preset price; alternatively, they could eat the bowls instead. Only Zabrina and Joe Jer completed this second task.

After, teams headed to the Pit Stop at Jakarta's National Monument.
3. The fourth leg of the race in Sydney, Australia require a Detour choice between 'Elevation' or 'Crustacean'. Where did teams complete the latter task?

Answer: At a restaurant

Flying to Sydney in Leg 4, teams located the Detour at Dawes Point and were asked to choose their task. In 'Elevation', teams could ascend the stairways to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and, at the top, claim their next clue. Andy and Laura, Sharon and Melody, Howard and Sahran, and Zabrina and Joe Jer completed this task. In 'Crustacean', teams needed to head to a local seafood restaurant, Doyle's at the Quay, and shell cold prawns for the next dinner service. Once they finished fourteen kilograms, they could continue on. Andrew and Syeon, Sandy and Francesca, Mardy and Marsio, and Sahil and Prashant finished this.
4. In Leg 5 in Auckland, New Zealand, teams completed either 'Rigging' or which other Detour task?

Answer: 'Rugby'

Visiting Auckland, teams needed to choose from two New Zealand-themed tasks: 'Rigging' and 'Rugby'. 'Rigging', completed by Howard and Sahran, Zabrina and Joe Jer, Andy and Laura, Mardy and Marsio, Melody and Sharon, and Sandy and Francesca, required that each team properly rig a sail on a sailboat in Westhaven Marina using specific knots and techniques. 'Rugby', on the other hand, required that each participating team kick three goals in a game of rugby from the 23m line.

This was done by Andrew and Syeon and Sahil and Prashant.

After this task, teams needed to find their way to the Sky Tower in the city.
5. Leg 6 contained a Detour choice between 'Ledge' and 'Luge'. Were both tasks completed by the same number of teams?

Answer: No

This was not a possibility as there were seven teams remaining in the game at this time. Continuing to the south island of New Zealand in Leg 6, teams found the Detour at Bob's Peak in Queenstown. This choice was between 'Ledge' and 'Luge'. In 'Ledge', teams completed the terrifying AJ Hackett ledge swing to collect their next clue.

This adrenaline-fueled task was finished by Mardy and Marsio, Andrew and Syeon, Sandy and Francesca, and Andy and Laura. In 'Luge', teams needed to complete four circuits on a luge course. Opting not to face a fear of heights, Howard and Sahran, Zabrina and Joe Jer, and Melody and Sharon finished this task.
6. In Leg 7 in Thailand, teams needed to complete either 'Bacon' or 'Eggs'. Which task involved food?

Answer: 'Eggs'

Finding their seventh Detour task in Bangkok, Thailand, teams needed to complete either 'Bacon' or 'Eggs'. In 'Bacon', teams needed to take a tuk-tuk to the Memorial for People Born in the Year of Pig in Bangkok. However, teams needed to find the way on their own or with the help of locals, many of whom would not speak English. Andrew and Syeon, Mardy and Marsio, Zabrina and Joe Jer, and Howard and Sahran completed this task. For 'Eggs', teams had to deliver over two dozen trays of fresh eggs from a marked stall to an egg market without breaking any. Should they have broken any, they'd need to return with replacements. Andy and Laura and Sandy and Francesca did this one.

After the Detour, teams headed to the Pit Stop at Wat Pho.
7. Teams made their way to India in Leg 9, a two-part leg heading from Kolkata to Delhi. Despite there being a two-part leg, there was only one Detour held in India.

Answer: False

In Kolkata, teams found a Detour clue at Kanishka's Sari Boutique requiring that they either 'Carry' or 'Count'. Andy and Laura completed 'Carry' in which they needed to carry eighty pounds of milk in pots above their heads, transporting it across a field.

In 'Count', the other four teams counted over one thousand betel nuts at a local market to receive their clues. In Delhi, teams found another Detour task at the Red Fort shortly after encountering a Yield. Here, teams either dealt with 'Deliver' or 'Donkey'.

In 'Deliver', teams carried spices to a market shop with only a photo taken on a Sony CyberShot camera to guide them. In 'Donkey', teams once again needed to deliver, but they had to pile onions onto a donkey and guide it to a different shop. 'Deliver' was completed by Mardy and Marsio and Andrew and Syeon, while 'Donkey' was finished by Sandy and Francesca, Zabrina and Joe Jer, and Andy and Laura.
8. In Dubai in Leg 10, teams needed to complete a Detour task in which of these?

Answer: Snow

Flying to the United Arab Emirates after finishing their tasks in India, the final four teams ended up completing several tasks in the heat of Dubai. Towards the end of the leg, the teams needed to race to the Mall of the Emirates to find Ski Dubai, an indoor ski hill.

Here, teams could choose to either 'Hike' or 'Hack'. Hiking would mean that teams needed to carry equipment to the top of one of the ski hills to receive their next clue while hacking involved breaking into a large ice block to claim the clue found inside. Zabrina and Joe Jer and Mardy and Marsio completed 'Hike' while Sandy and Francesca and Andrew and Syeon completed 'Hack'.
9. During the 'Ride' Detour task in Leg 11, teams had to ride what animal in the United Arab Emirates?

Answer: Camel

Leaving the Pit Stop and heading out into the scorching heat of the Margham Sand Dunes, the final four teams located a Detour clue atop one of the dunes. The choice was between 'Ride' and 'Seek'. In 'Ride', teams needed to use a camel to navigate a course and collect five flags in the desert sands. Andrew and Syeon, Sandy and Francesca, Zabrina and Joe Jer, and Mardy and Marsio all ended up finishing the task. Had teams attempted 'Seek', they would've had to use a metal detector to locate a small, metal souvenir camel hidden in a marked area of sand.

After this, teams headed to a task at the Eye of the Emirates.
10. Which of these teams did not complete the Detour task in Leg 12 in Malaysia?

Answer: Mardy and Marsio

Leg 12 was the final leg of the race, so only the final three teams competed in the task in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia; Mardy and Marsio were eliminated in fourth place in the previous leg of the race (back in Dubai, UAE). In this final Detour, teams could choose either 'Brain' or 'Brawn'. 'Brain' required that they construct a bench using no more than a picture (on a Sony CyberShot camera, no less) for reference. 'Brawn', an obviously physical task, required that they transport thirty kilograms of food through a market using a device held on their shoulders. Andrew and Syeon, Zabrina and Joe Jer, and Sandy and Francesca all chose 'Brain'.
