Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who do the Bradfords throw a party for in this episode?

Answer: The Maxwells

It is the Maxwells' 25th anniversary, so the Bradfords decide to throw a surprise party for them. (Joan tells the Maxwells they have four tickets in a box to see "Mame.")
2. Why was David so sensitive about his girlfriend around his family?

Answer: She was older than him

Jennifer Linden was 30 ad David was 22. They met when David honked at her in traffic and her car broke down, causing a traffic jam. David worked construction and Jennifer was a political consultant who was behind a bill that Dr. Maxwell didn't like. David's entire family kept trying to find out about his relationship with Jennifer. Nancy wondered who paid for the dates, for example. Elizabeth saw David and Jennifer making out at the movies, which caused her date to keep talking about how much older women knew.
3. Who didn't have a problem with David dating Jennifer?

Answer: Joan

Joan didn't like it when all the girls were going on about David dating an older women. Joan claimed she couldn't believe how her daughters, who had the benefit of growing up during 'women's lib' could act so old-fashioned.

The girls countered with the fact that David was their brother and they were just concerned.

Joan even told Tom she thought there should be no problem with David dating an older woman - especially as so many women dated older men. She thought it was only fair that an older woman would want to enjoy a younger man's body.
4. What did Jennifer cook David for dinner at her house?

Answer: spaghetti

When David first saw Jennifer's house, he remarked that he didn't think they had the same dinner budgets. Jennifer cooked spaghetti for them. At another time, Jennifer and David went out to a restaurant. David said he couldn't afford the restaurant, and Jennifer explained that she was tired of eating spaghetti and just wanted a good steak. Jennifer paid for that meal, which made David a bit uncomfortable.
5. Who found out that Dr. Maxwell didn't like Jennifer?

Answer: Tom

Tom and Dr. Maxwell were golfing when Dr. Maxwell kept going on about this health care bill that had been introduced. Eventually, Dr. Maxwell says he would like to strangle that Linden woman who introduced it as she wasn't a doctor, not even a nurse and knew nothing about the health care system.
6. Who dis-invited Jennifer from the party?

Answer: Tom

Once Tom found out that Dr. Maxwell really didn't like Jennifer, he met her at a restaurant and explained that he had to ask her not to come to the party. Jennifer believed that Tom didn't like how she and David had such an age difference and went on about how they shouldn't look at her relationship with David that way.

Tom was able to say that he had a friend who didn't like her politics - just as Dr. Maxwell came up to their table.

When David found out that Tom had dis-invited Jennifer, he was upset and suggested that Tom should have talked with Dr. Maxwell (whom he had known for over 20 years) instead of talking to Jennifer (whom he'd never met).

In the previous episode ("Women, Ducks, and the Domino Theory"), Mary told David that the Bradfords had the following character flaws: bad table manners, talk too much, and they were always getting into each other's business.
7. What had Jennifer bought as a gift for the party?

Answer: statue

Jennifer bought the statue at an antiques shop. She claimed the owner had no idea how much the statue was really worth. She confessed to David that she thought if she showed up with such a nice gift, his family would have to accept her. She had David give the statue to his parents to use as their gift for the Maxwells. Tom and Joan didn't pretend they had bought the gift, however.
8. What did David almost borrow of Tom's?

Answer: fishing equipment

David borrowed Tom's fishing pole and tackle box. However, as David was leaving, Tom ran into him and asked how he and Jennifer were doing. David took this the wrong way and complained that everyone kept butting into his business. He then threw the fishing equipment down on the ground and walked away as Tom warned David that they would talk about this later.
9. Where was Jennifer when David found her and brought her to the party?

Answer: On a date

David found her at a bar/disco with an older man. David was able to convince her to go to the party, despite having been dis-invited by Tom.
10. Who talked with Dr. Maxwell and convinced him to face Jennifer and be civil at the party?

Answer: Mary

Mary talked to him and was able to convince him that although he didn't like her politics, it didn't mean he couldn't be at his own anniversary party. Tom came into the kitchen and Mary told him that it was all right - Dr. Maxwell was going back to the party.
