Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode we see a typical operating room scene, with Hawkeye and Trapper operating on what sort of fellow?

Answer: 2-Star General

In the midst of this operation, Hawkeye discovers a problem...related in the next question!
2. During this operation, the doctors find that they are deficient of a very important item. What staple of the operating room do they run short on?

Answer: Hydrocortisone

Hawkeye and Trapper confront Margaret, who was responsible for ordering supplies, regarding the hydrocortisone, only to find that it was ordered but was stolen by black marketeers.
3. While Hawkeye and Trapper struggle about how to solve their problem, Colonel Blake is admiring his new desk. From what type of wood was his desk made?

Answer: Oak

'Guess what type of wood this desk is made of.' 'Oak.' 'Nope, it's oak!' While Henry enjoys his new desk, Hawkeye calls General Hammond about the problem with the stolen supplies, but Hammond refuses to help. Radar suggests they go to the black market themselves.
4. Unable to beat the black market, Hawkeye and Trapper decide to join it, heading down to Seoul in order to meet one of the head honchos. What is this gentleman's name?

Answer: Charlie Lee

Charlie Lee has everything he'd ever need, including a medical plan. Ah...but he doesn't have a genuine, 100-year old antique oak desk!
5. Which actor plays this black marketeer boss, later disguised as a South Korean general?

Answer: Jack Soo

Charlie Lee disguises himself as a South Korean general in order to have an 'inspection' of the 4077th...and more specifically, his future desk.
6. An error is made twice during this episode, when two individuals make references to which of the following?

Answer: Southeast Asia

As Korea is certainly not a Southeast Asian country, references to it as such were errors in this episode. The first reference was made by Charlie Lee, who characterizes the doctors at the 4077th as the best in the 'Southeast Asia Theater of Operations'. Hawkeye makes the second reference when describing the desk as 'something there's only one of in all of Southeast Asia'.

These errors were understandable considering that the U.S. was embroiled at the time in Vietnam (1972).
7. While the 'General' gets a look at his future desk, his 'aide', waiting outside, gets the 3rd degree from Frank. During this chat, the aide offers to sell Frank what item?

Answer: A watch

He does remark at first about Frank becoming a Colonel, but thinks better of it, offering him one of the watches he has strapped around his leg instead. Later in the episode Frank confronts this fellow again, saying 'I'd like to get a good look at your legs!'
8. Radar wakes Trapper and Hawkeye at 5 AM so that they may begin the process of removing Colonel Blake's desk from his office. Unfortunately, they are trapped in the office when Frank and Hot Lips hear noises and come to investigate. Luckily for them, Frank's passions get the better of him and he suggests that Hot Lips join him in the supply tent. Before they leave, we find out that Frank likes what best about Hot Lips?

Answer: Her lobes

'Lobes' meaning ear lobes in this case. What were you thinking?
9. How do the doctors finally remove Blake's desk from his office?

Answer: Through the back wall

Hawkeye and Trapper, still locked in the office, dismantle the rear wall and remove the desk toward the waiting truck.
10. Frank foils the plan to have the desk removed in the waiting truck, so the doctors have O'Brian, the chopper pilot, fly the desk away. In the final scene we see Trapper, Hawkeye, Blake and Frank all staring blankly as the desk disappears over the mountains. Who delivers this amusing line, 'It just keeps going up, up, up.'?

Answer: Blake

Hawkeye's reply, 'to a far, far better place I'm sure.' Blake realizes he's been duped by those wacky doctors once again! If you enjoyed this quiz, please feel free to try my other M*A*S*H related quizzes...there are several dozen others!
