Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first leg of the race, team members completed a Road Block in which they had to hit a suit of armour with what item?

Answer: Watermelon

Arriving at Eastnor Castle in England in Leg 1, teams needed to choose one member with good aim to fire watermelons using a large sling device known as a ballista. When team members hit a suit of armour in a nearby field they would be able to receive the clue directing them to the Pit Stop on the Eastnor Castle grounds. Thomas, Claire, Nat, Rachel, Connor, Chad, Gary, Kevin, Jenna, Nick, and Ron all got ready, aimed, and fired.

In a rather interesting moment, Claire ended up feeling the brunt of one watermelon which flew back and hit her in the face mid-task.

This clip became viral on the internet months before the show aired.
2. In Leg 2, one member of each team needed to sell sunglasses in what African country?

Answer: Ghana

In Leg 2, teams flew to the city of Accra, Ghana, where they eventually needed to locate Makola Market. Here, one member of each team needed to perform a Road Block in which they had to use a board of sunglasses to sell enough to make fifteen cedis (selling each pair for no less than three cedis each). Once they handed in the money earned for their sunglasses, they would be able to continue on in their taxis to the Teshie region of Accra. Nick, Brook, Jill, Chad, Rachel, Michael, Kat, Connor, Jenna, and Mallory all drove the hard sell.
3. In Sweden in Leg 4, which team member did not complete the dogsledding Road Block task?

Answer: Brook

In Leg 4, teams flew from the heat of Ghana to the cold of Sweden's Lapland region, specifically the city of Kiruna. Here, teams found their way to Fjellborg's Lodge in Poikkijärvi where one member of each team needed to harness dogs into sled gear and ride them along a course on a summer practice sled. En route to their destination, the participants needed to collect flags hanging from ropes along the route. If they collected all five they would be able to receive a bundle of furs to return to the starting point, otherwise they'd take a penalty lap around a small nearby track to make up for each one not collected. Michael, Mallory, Claire, Kat, Katie, Connor, Stephanie, Nick, and Jill completed this task.
4. In Leg 5, which team did not complete the Road Block in Norway?

Answer: Nat and Kat

In Leg 5, teams drove to Narvik, Norway (from the Swedish border) and completed the Road Block at Skjomen Bridge. Here, one member of each team needed to perform a rappel off the side of a bridge (130ft. down) to receive their next clue from a boat, then ascend to the top to continue on. Kevin, Gary, Claire, Thomas, Vicki, Chad, and Katie completed this task before heading on to the Detour. Neither Nat nor Kat completed the Road Block as they had claimed the race's only Fast Forward clue and got to skip all tasks in the leg.
5. In Leg 6, team members participating in the Russian Road Block dressed up in which of these?

Answer: Dress

In Leg 6, teams found a Road block task outside Saint Petersburg in the town of Alexandrovskaya. Here, Kevin, Brook, Jill, Mallory, Stephanie, Kat, and Nick had to find a wheelbarrow, fill it with manure, and take a bag of potatoes to a local marked yard to plant fifty potatoes to a Babushka's liking (dressed as a Babushka themselves, of course). Once they finished this, they could return to their partner and go to the Pit Stop at St. Isaac's Cathedral in Saint Petersburg.
6. In Leg 7 in Saint Petersburg, how many team members completed the Road Block task (in total)?

Answer: Seven

In Saint Petersburg, teams found the Road block at the Gorodki courts in Peter and Paul Fortress. Here, one member of each team needed to beat three rounds of this Russian game which bears similar attributes to American bowling. When they knocked their blocks off the starting platform three times they would be able to claim their next clue and head to the next Pit Stop, the Naryshkin Bastion in the fortress. Nat, Brook, Michael, Nick, Gary, Thomas, and Stephanie completed this Road Block task.
7. In Leg 8, teams searched for magic lamps during a Road Block in which country?

Answer: Oman

In Leg 8, while traveling through the Omani deserts, teams found the Road Block task at Jebel Shams, the tallest peak in the country. Here, once teams ascended to its top point in a jeep, one member needed to rappel five hundred feet down the side and search one of the ledges for one of only a few magic lamps (in hundreds) containing a ring.

When they handed this item off to a waiting attendant they would be able to continue on with the race. Chad, Jill, Vicki, Claire, Nat, and Mallory all completed this task.
8. In Leg 9, teams flew to Bangladesh and completed a Road Block task involving taxi cabs.

Answer: False

While teams did head to the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh to complete their tasks in Leg 9, the Road Block, found at the Tekka Mistiri Rickshaw Garage in Nazira Bazaar, involved cycle rickshaws and not taxi cabs. For this task, teams needed to accessorize and build cycle rickshaws including certain parts like a canopy, seats, wheels, pedals, etc.

When the racers participating had done all of this to the attendant's standards they would receive their next clue. Jill, Nick, Nat, Brook, and Stephanie all finished up with this task before teams headed to Lalbagh Fort.
9. In Leg 10, team members needed to eat sushi in Hong Kong during their Detour. What did they need to find?

Answer: One piece made of plastic

In Leg 10, teams flew to Hong Kong and completed a Road Block at the Majesty Chinese Restaurant in Kowloon City. Here, one member of each time needed to search through a buffet of sushi using only chopsticks to find one of only five pieces of sushi which were fake. If they touched any piece that was real, they'd need to eat it. Nat, Claire, Thomas, and Vicki all finished this task (with some team members getting sick mid-task) before continuing on to the Avenue of the Stars.
10. Which team member completed the final Road Block task in Los Angeles in Leg 12?

Answer: Thomas

In the final Road Block task of the race, teams needed to go to the Rose Bowl parking lot by helicopter and participate in a float building task for the Rose Bowl parade. Here, the participating team members (Thomas, Brook, and Nat) had to work on three different portions of the float to the satisfaction of the head builder (involving flowers and straw) to get their clue from the previous year's Rose Queen.

After this task, teams headed off to complete their final tasks before going to the finish line.
