At the end of season 2, Clark destroyed the spaceship, causing his mother to have a miscarriage. Clark puts on his class ring, which contains red kryptonite, which makes him bad. He rides off on a motorcycle to Metropolis, where he is 3 months later, at the beginning of season 3.

Clark flashes back to 1961, where Lana's great aunt and Clark's real father Jor-El share a secret romance. Clark finds out that Lana's aunt Louise was murdered by someone, and Lana's uncle is accused of doing it. By the end, Clark finds out that it is actually Mayor Tate who killed her.
