Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character from the original 'Star Trek' made a cameo appearance in the pilot episode?

Answer: McCoy

Admiral McCoy was being escorted to his shuttle by Data after having inspected the medical facilities. The other 3 individuals also appeared either on the series or a 'Next Generation' movie, but not in the pilot.
2. What recurring character appeared in the pilot episode, but wasn't named until later in the series?

Answer: Miles O'Brien

O'Brien was at the conn, but never identified by name. Colm Meaney appeared in several episodes on the show, then got a regular job playing the same character on 'DS9'.
3. 'The Naked Now' used the same basic premise as which original 'Star Trek' episode?

Answer: 'The Naked Time'

The solution, at least in part, required the crew on Picard's Enterprise to locate a log entry from Kirk's Enterprise. Then there was the issue of just how fully functional Data really was...
4. In 'Code of Honor', men owned the land and riches.

Answer: False

Although it appeared that the men owned things, their power was dependent on the financial wealth of their wife, and where they ranked compared to her other husbands.
5. In 'Where No Man Has Gone Before', what was the name of the Traveler's assistant?

Answer: Kosinski

Although he was of help to the Traveler, Kosinski really didn't understand the full details of the engine adjustments. This episode also set up the story line for Wesley Crusher, which would be ongoing throughout the series.
6. In 'The Last Outpost', what former empire's outpost are the ships orbiting?

Answer: Tkon Empire

The empire had been wiped out many centuries earlier, but the artificial guardian of the planet, known as Portal, had not been informed. This episode included the debut of the Ferengi in the 'Star Trek' universe.
7. On Rubican III, what's the only penalty for breaking a law?

Answer: Death

Wesley Crusher was going to be executed for falling into a bed of newly planted flowers. I know he could be a bit annoying at times, but that did seem a bit much.
8. What was the name of Captain Picard's former ship?

Answer: Stargazer

As captain of the Stargazer, Picard had used what became known as 'The Picard Maneuver' to destroy a Ferengi ship that had badly damaged his ship (no it wasn't Picard pulling down the front of his uniform shirt, at least not at first), then abandoned ship. The father of the dead Ferengi captain found the ship, and set a trap for Picard.
9. In 'Hide and Q', who did Q give unlimited power to?

Answer: Riker

The Q Continuum felt that Riker would make a good addition to their ranks, but he turned them down.
10. In 'Too Short a Season', why had Admiral Jameson originally given weapons to Karnas' forces?

Answer: Traded them for hostages

Karnas got his weapons and released his hostages, but didn't realize until later that Jameson had given weapons to his enemies as well. This maintained the balance of power between the two sides, but contributed to a 40 year long civil war.
11. Who created Data and Lore?

Answer: Noonien Soong

Brent Spiner not only had the role of Data, but played Lore and Dr Soong (at multiple ages) as well during the series. He did an excellent job in all 3 roles.
12. The survivors of a crippled freighter caused major problems in the episode 'Angel One'. What was the name of the freighter?

Answer: SS Odin

The Male survivors caused quite a stir in a world run by women.
13. What was the name of the Bynar's holographic woman that captivated Riker and Picard?

Answer: Minuet

The Bynars stole the Enterprise to store critical computer information that allowed them to function. They needed Riker and Picard's help once they got home to download the data, so they created a perfect holographic woman to distract them while faking a crisis that caused everyone else to leave the Enterprise. Once the computer data had been restored on the Bynar's home world, Minuet went away with it.
14. What position did Admiral Quinn offer Captain Picard?

Answer: Command of Starfleet Academy

The Admiral wanted people he could trust in key positions, because had concerns about enemy forces infiltrating Starfleet. Those concerns turned out to be justified.
15. What part of Klingon culture do we see for the first time in the episode 'Heart of Glory'?

Answer: Death Ritual

When a Klingon dies, the other Klingons cry out to warn the souls in the afterlife that a Klingon warrior is coming.
16. What character in 'The Arsenal of Freedom' suffers severe injuries in a fall?

Answer: Dr Crusher

She and Picard fell into the control center for a weapon that was attacking the Enterprise. A demonstration mode on the weapon had gone out of control, and the civilization on the planet had been wiped out by the weapon. While keeping the Doctor alive, Picard managed to shut down the weapon.
17. Who died in 'Skin of Evil'?

Answer: Natasha Yar

Denise Crosby had decided to leave the show, so they chose to kill off the character. There would be some interesting concepts that allowed her to periodically return to the show in future years.
18. Michelle Phillips, who played Picard's former love Jenice in 'We'll Always Have Paris', was a member of what 60's era rock band?

Answer: The Mamas and the Papas

After the band broke up, she moved into acting.
19. In the episode 'Conspiracy', the main alien was hiding in whose body?

Answer: Remmick

When they killed the alien (in a spectacular if gory scene), the Starfleet officers under the influence of it were released. The end of the episode suggested that the alien race might still be a threat, but that storyline was dropped.
20. Who played Lwaxana Troi?

Answer: Majel Barrett

The Queen of 'Star Trek'.
