Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the game, both tribes received a member who had appeared in a previous season. Bobby Jon and Stephenie both appeared in which prior competition?

Answer: Survivor: Palau

Sixteen Survivors split into two teams for this eleventh season of the show sending them to the beautiful ruins of Guatemala. While teams consisted of the typical eight members (each) to begin, Jeff also informed them that they would be taking an additional tool back to their new homes: another player. One team would be receiving Stephenie LaGrossa and the other would receive Bobby Jon Drinkard. Both of these people were on the decimated Ulong tribe in the previous season, "Survivor: Palau", and lasted the longest to become, arguably, the strongest players of the game in many regards. Having been through the experience before, their knowledge would be invaluable.
2. Teams commenced their first Reward Challenge (for their camps) immediately. What did they need to do in this challenge?

Answer: Hike

On Day 1, Jeff introduced tribes to their colours and names, the blue-clad Yaxha and the yellow-clad Nakum. He informed them that their first Reward Challenge would begin immediately; they would hike eleven miles through the dense Guatemalan jungle to the better of two camps containing several Mayan items and a flint.

This would be their home for the competition. The last tribe to arrive would take the lesser of two camps without a flint. They would receive a compass and map as well as fruit and water; they could choose to carry only what they wanted. The race ended on Day 2 and the teams slept in the jungle en route on their first night.

When it was completed, Nakum won the better camp.
3. On Day 9, the teams gathered for a Reward Challenge but were instead faced with which of these?

Answer: A tribal swap

With three people eliminated (one from Nakum and two from Yaxha), the tribes gathered in front of some ruins on Day 9 to participate in a unique challenge. For this task, the tribes were asked questions by Jeff, each of which could have had an effect on the rest of the game; they could not vote for themselves.

When asked 'who needs nourishment?', the teams voted for people who would win a food reward. Other rewards included a shower (for the smelliest) and a picnic lunch atop a Mayan ruin for four different people. When asked 'who has the most tribe pride?'. Yaxha chose Brian and Nakum chose Cindy. Both remained members of their tribes.

The remaining four members of each tribe (who did not go on the picnic) swapped tribes. Blake, Brandon, Bobby Jon, and Danni switched to Yaxha while Stephenie, Rafe, Lydia, and Jamie became members of Nakum. Upon returning to their camps (new or old), the tribes received fruit as a gift.
4. On Day 15, which tribe went to Tribal Council?

Answer: Both

On Day 15, both tribes arrived at the Reward Challenge to discover that both would be heading to Tribal Council that evening, regardless of the winners. Nakum won the Reward Challenge, granting them a wonderful barbecue meal. In addition, the winning tribe was able to compete for Individual Immunity during that night's vote-- Rafe won this.

When Nakum went to Tribal Council they voted out Margaret. Rafe was able to attend the second Tribal Council (for Yaxha) and give his immunity to a member of that tribe; he chose Gary. Brian was voted out.

This was the third time in "Survivor" history where both tribes had to go to Tribal Council. The first time was in "Pearl Islands" and the second was in "Palau".
5. When the tribes merged on Day 18, what became their new name?

Answer: Xhakum

When Yaxha eliminated Amy during Tribal Council on Day 18, they were surprised to receive new buffs and were told to head directly to Nakum-- all of their stuff would be waiting there for the merge. Upon their arrival they handed out new red buffs and received a flag to paint. They named the new tribe Xhakum, a combination of both of their names.
In addition to this, teams received word that there was a hidden immunity idol somewhere around their camp which could be used at any Tribal Council before the final four...at least by the one person who found it.
6. Who found and used the Hidden Immunity Idol?

Answer: Gary

On Day 22, the tribe headed to the Reward Challenge where the winner received a clue to location of hidden idol. Judd received this, however he did not locate the prize. On Day 23, Gary located the Immunity Idol hidden near the tribe's camp. It was wedged into the trunk of a tree, clearly visible yet hard to locate.

This idol was used during the very next Tribal Council; both Jamie and Gary had immunity. As a result, Bobby Jon was sent home and Gary departed six days later. Both joined the jury.
7. During the 'Survivor' Auction, what unique, new item was introduced to the players?

Answer: An advantage during the next challenge

Taking $500 (USD) each, the remaining six castaways were invited to the Survivor Auction for this season on Day 31. They would be able to bid on items and the game would end without warning. This season, the typical food items were introduced. Cookies, beef jerky, a Philly steak sandwich and fries, and overnight stays with loved ones were included amongst the prizes this time.

In addition, Judd bid on the option to send three tribe members to the old Yaxha camp for a night. Danni also won a unique prize-- she got an advantage in the next Immunity Challenge.

She later won it, saving herself from elimination and getting rid of Judd. The overnight stay cost the most (at $880).
8. For the final Reward Challenge, Cindy won a car. She had the option of keeping it or doing which of these?

Answer: Giving everyone else a car instead

For their final Reward Challenge, the final five needed to complete an obstacle course consisting of elements from earlier challenges in the game. The final tribe member standing would earn their reward-- a 2006 Pontiac Torrent and a barbecue feast for the winner and one other person (including an overnight stay).

In a "Survivor" first, Cindy won the car but Jeff, alluding to the supposed 'Car Curse', said that because of the risk of losing the million by winning the car, she could give everyone else a car and get rid of hers...just in case she was superstitious.

She kept the car and took Stephenie on the reward with her. She was eliminated two days later.
9. Of the Final Four, who won the most Immunity Challenges?

Answer: Rafe

In addition to three individual immunities handed over to Rafe during his time in Xhakum, he also won an individual immunity while on Nakum, saving him from the double vote on Day 15. Danni also won two Immunity Challenges, one of which saved her from leaving when the numbers were against her and one which propelled her into the final two. Stephenie won a single immunity while Lydia won none.

The only other immunity winners during the game were Jamie and Gary (who won one and three, respectively).
10. Who was the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Guatemala"?

Answer: Danni

After eliminating Rafe in the final three, Stephenie and Danni proceeded to Tribal Council on Day 39 to receive their votes for the million dollars. While Rafe voted for Stephenie to win the million, the other six jury members-- Lydia, Judd, Gary, Jamie, and Bobby Jon-- all voted for Danni to be the Sole Survivor, mainly because of her unbroken bonds with some of the jury members and her ability to beat the odds-- she was the only member of Yaxha to make it past Day 30, outlasting the final five Nakum members.
