Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did teams begin the first leg of the fifteenth "Amazing Race"?

Answer: Los Angeles

In the beginning of this fifteenth race, twelve teams arrived in Los Angeles, California and stood in the Sixth Street Viaduct where their race would begin. As usual, Phil informed them that the first to cross the finish line would win one million dollars, several tasks would be en route to this final destination, and most of them would not make it all the way.
And then there was a catch. The first team would be eliminated without even leaving the viaduct. Urp!
2. Which team became the first eliminated in the United States?

Answer: Eric and Lisa

As soon as teams were given the go ahead, they would be able to head to their bags located down the viaduct and open their first clue requiring that teams fly to Tokyo, Japan. To do this, however, teams needed to face off against a wall of hundreds of license plates and search for one of only eleven containing the Japanese kanji symbol for Shinagawa (which was shown at the top of their clues). Teams would then need to go to Phil at the mat and receive their tickets to Tokyo, but only if they picked the right plate. Eric and Lisa were the only team to leave empty-handed, and they became the first team eliminated from the race (and the quickest in the race's history).
3. Teams took tickets on one of how many flights to Japan?

Answer: Two

After claiming their tickets from Phil, teams drove themselves to LAX in Los Angeles to catch their respective flights. The first six teams took an earlier flight while the remaining five teams were scheduled to arrive a half hour later. When teams arrived in Tokyo, it turned out that the second flight arrived only eight minutes after the first, placing teams on an even playing field as they reached a Tokyo Tower TV station.

When teams arrived here they were in for a wacky time.
4. Which team member did not eat the wasabi bomb in Japan in Leg 1?

Answer: Marcy

Upon arriving at the Tokyo Tower, teams were presented with 'Sushi Roulette', a Japanese game show which began as soon as all eleven teams arrived. Although not presented as a Road Block, this task required that one member of each team participate. The host would spin the roulette wheel, and whatever sushi landed in front of the player would need to be eaten within two minutes. If the player landed on one of two wasabi bombs, they would need to finish it in the designated time to receive their next clue. Maria and Brian needed to do this twice as they could not finish the task on their first try.
5. Which team was first to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of the first leg of the race?

Answer: Meghan and Cheyne

After the Road block, teams were required to take twenty audience members with the same coloured visors through Tokyo's streets (including the bustling Shibuya Scramble) to the first Pit Stop of the race at Konno Hachimangu Shrine. They would only be checked in if they had all twenty people. Meghan and Cheyne, one of the first teams out of the 'Sushi Roulette' task, became the first victors of the race and won themselves a Travelocity trip for two to Aspen and Vale.

As other teams and their groups checked in, Maria and Tiffany accidentally lost two of their group in the Shibuya Scramble and were forced to check in without them. Luckily, this was the first of three designated non-elimination points, and while they would have to take a two hour penalty for not finishing the task and they would have to complete a Speed Bump in the next leg, they would be spared from elimination.
6. In Leg 2, to which country did teams fly?

Answer: Vietnam

In the beginning of Leg 2, teams departed from Konno Hachimangu Shrine and were told to take a flight to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam where they would be able to continue onward. Despite Maria and Tiffany's two hour penalty, the fact that all eleven teams departed late at night resulted in their taking the same plane to Vietnam. Upon their arrival, teams found flooded streets and tons of traffic as they made their way to the bus station and boarded coach buses to the city of Cai Be. Teams were split on two buses to this destination.
7. What did the team completing the Speed Bump in Leg 2 need to make?

Answer: Soup

When teams arrived in Cai Be, they needed to find a clue box at the Ben Tau Du Lich Dock which, unfortunately, wouldn't open for teams until the following morning. When all teams were given the go ahead, they were able to continue onward to find their next clue. Maria and Tiffany, on the other hand, were given their Speed Bump for placing last in the previous leg. For this Speed Bump, they needed to go to a nearby soup stall and fetch the materials to make pho soup for their dockmaster.

When they made this soup and handed it off, they could continue on in the race.
8. What did teams need to ride in Cai Be to find the mud-themed task?

Answer: Sampans

Once at the dock in Cai Be, teams were told to hop into sampans to locate their next clue. Using a map, teams rode to a marked fruit farm where they needed to disembark and use pans to transport mud to a nearby tree. Teams needed to cover the base of their tree and its containment basin with this nutritional mud harvested from the river up to a marked line around the trunk to receive their next clue from the local farmers.

After this, teams could return their sampan to the dock from which they came.
9. In the duck-herding Road Block task of Leg 2, how many ducks did team members need to herd?

Answer: One hundred fifty

Teams then made their way to Cai Be Field where they located the clue box containing their Road Block task for this leg of the race. For this Road Block, team members needed to head into one of only a few marked pens and herd one hundred fifty ducks from one end, over a bridge, and back into their holding areas. If the selected team member could do this within ten minutes they would receive their next clue, otherwise they would need to wait for another free pen to try again. Meghan, Jessica, Zev, Mika, Tiffany, Ericka, Flight Time, Matt, Marcy, Keri, and Sam dealt with the ducks.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 2?

Answer: Garrett and Jessica

After the Road Block (which frustrated the less patient teams), everyone was required to head, on foot, to the second Pit Stop of the race aboard the Bassac III Riverboat in Cai Be. To get there, teams would need to make their way through Cai Be Market and find the correct path to the canal at which the boat was docked. Gary and Matt arrived in first and won a couple of kayaks as a result.

In the end, it was Garrett and Jessica, who couldn't pull through during the Road Block, who were eliminated from the race.
