Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 3, teams took a bus from Chile to what neighbouring country?

Answer: Argentina

Opening their clues at Gruta de la Virgen in Puerto Varas, Chile, teams started this third leg of the race with the instructions to board a bus leaving the next morning from their present location heading to the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, six hours through the Andes Mountains making up the Chilean-Argentinean border.

The three front-running teams (Jet and Cord, Carol and Brandy, and Joe and Heidi) took the first bus leaving at 8:30am while the remaining six teams departed twenty minutes later on the second bus. Upon arriving, teams hopped into their cars and left.
2. What card game did racers play against a Travelocity Roaming Gnome in Leg 3?

Answer: Five-card stud

Arriving in San Carlos de Bariloche, teams drove themselves to El Boliche Viejo, the getaway for the Hole in the Wall Gang in Argentina. Here, teams needed to play against and beat a Travelocity Roaming Gnome at a game of five-card stud poker before they could receive a smaller gnome with a clue on its base. Teams would need to bring this gnome along with them to the Pit Stop to check in as well.

After this task, teams walked themselves to the next clue.
3. Which team member participated in the lassoing Road Block task in Leg 3?

Answer: Steve

After some poker, teams walked in behind the tavern to Pena Gaucha where they opened up their Road Block clues for this leg. For this task, one member of each team was required to use a rope in a lasso to catch an unmoving target about twenty feet in front of them.

Heidi, Carol, Jet, Jeff, Steve, Shawne, Louie, Dan, and Brent all ended up hooking their clues and moving on. After this, teams hopped back into their cars to continue to the next clue box.
4. Which of these Detour tasks was completed by the most teams in Leg 3?

Answer: 'Horse Power'

Teams found their Detour task waiting at Puente Nirihuau near a cliffside and it requires a choice between 'Horse Sense' and 'Horse Power'. In 'Horse Sense', teams needed to receive a set of directions and coordinates at which they would be able to dig for a bag of treasure in a nearby field. If found, teams would need to return the coins to an 'outlaw' waiting at a train station in the vicinity.

In 'Horse Power', teams hopped onto wooden 'practice ponies' to hit a polo ball across a field (moving the ponies along the way).

When they hit the ball across the field in under ten shots they received their clues. 'Horse Sense' was completed by Jordan and Jeff and Monica and Shawne while 'Horse Power' was completed by Jet and Cord, Steve and Allie, Carol and Brandy, Joe and Heidi, Dan and Jordan, Louie and Michael, and Brent and Caite.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 3?

Answer: Monica and Shawne

After their Detour tasks, teams drove to their third Pit Stop, Estancia Fortin Chacabuco, a rather large ranch in the Patagonian Mountains. Here, Jet and Cord were the first to arrive (for the second time in a row). Arriving with their Travelocity Roaming Gnome in first place, they won themselves a trip for two back to Patagonia care of the gnome (and Travelocity, I guess). Monica and Shawne, who trailed throughout this entire leg of the race, were unable to catch up to the main group and were subsequently eliminated.
6. In Leg 4, teams completed tasks in which German city?

Answer: Hamburg

Departing from the Estancia Fortin Chacabuco in Argentina's Patagonian region, teams were told to fly a heck of a long way (about eight thousand miles!) from San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina to Frankfurt, Germany across a large expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. All eight remaining teams boarded the same series of flights from Bariloche to Buenos Aires, then to other European cities and, finally, Frankfurt. Upon their arrival, teams then made their way by train to the city of Hamburg where they found a clue box at Jungfernstieg Street.
7. In Germany in Leg 4, teams utilized which race mechanic?

Answer: Intersection

Upon reaching Jungfernstieg Street, teams were met with the rarely-used Intersection mechanic of the race in which they needed to pair up with other teams until further notice. Teams paired up as followed: Jet and Cord and Louie and Michael, Steve and Allie and Joe and Heidi, Carol and Brandy and Dan and Jordan, and Jeff and Jordan and Brent and Caite.

After matching up to complete their tasks, teams opened up their next clues from the nearby box.
8. For the Road Block task in Germany in Leg 4, team members needed to perform a bungee jump.

Answer: True

Immediately after being Intersected, teams opened a Road Block clue requiring that one member of each team (two per intersected pair) be chosen to "reach new heights". In this task, everyone took a train to Hamburg Harbour in the middle of the city, and the two chosen team members needed to perform a tandem bungee jump harnessed into a bungee crane resting near the water. Jet and Michael, Joe and Allie, Dan and Brandy, and Caite and Jordan all completed this task Intersected.

After the Road Block, teams were informed that they were no longer Intersected for the remainder of the leg.
9. In the Detour task in Leg 4 (in Germany), teams either chose 'Sauerkraut' or which task?

Answer: 'Soccer'

After the Road Block, teams moved along via taxi to Altonaer Rathaus in Hamburg to find a statue of Kaiser Wilhelm and their next clue box, this one containing a Detour. For this task, teams either chose 'Soccer' or 'Sauerkraut'. In 'Soccer', teams headed to a city stadium and kicked soccer balls to hit five targets from a penalty line. Once they hit all five, teams received their clue.

In 'Sauerkraut', teams needed to find a local restaurant and they had to eat a serving of sauerkraut before running out of time in the band's rendition of "The Sauerkraut Polka". Jet and Cord, Steve and Allie, Brent and Caite, Dan and Jordan, and Jordan and Jeff chose 'Soccer' while Michael and Louie, Joe and Heidi, and Carol and Brandy chose 'Sauerkraut'.

After this task, teams headed to Haifisch Bar in Hamburg to drink down a boot of beer.
10. Which team was first to arrive at the Pit Stop in Germany in Leg 4?

Answer: Louie and Michael

After drinking back some beer, teams took a taxi to the monument to the Fab Four known as Beatles-Platz, then walked through the Red Light District of Hamburg to the Indra Musikclub, the first place The Beatles performed in the city, to find their Pit Stop for this leg of the race. Michael and Louie were the first to arrive in this leg winning themselves a pair of Discover cards preloaded with $5,000 each. Jordan and Jeff, who had cab troubles and issues with the 'Sauerkraut' Detour task, placed last but discovered that they were in the first non-elimination leg of the race.
