Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first TV show to go mad was "The Apprentice". Donald Trump was so fed up with his candidates and decided to fire everyone right on the spot and leave the show permanently. This has never happened of course, but Trump has fired more than one candidate at a time in the board room. In the first five seasons, what has been the largest amount of people ever fired in a single boardroom elimination?

Answer: Four

In the fourth season of the show, Trump fired four of his candidates in the boardroom due to their horrible performance in the previous task. Jennifer Murphy, Josh Shaw, James Dillon, and Mark Lamkin were all fired during this task which required that they design a theme to boost sales at Dick's Sporting Goods store.

When the Excel team chose baseball for their promotion, things took a bad turn and the group had the worst performance in "Apprentice" history. Trump did not fire one member of the team because they won the previous task as project manager (so they were exempt), and two managed to bring in basically the only sales of the week.

In this and other seasons, Trump has also fired two candidates at a time for various reasons.
2. After a shocking episode of "The Apprentice", many viewers expected to find some reality on NBC's "Fear Factor", but once again they were surprised. For the gross-out stunt, contestants were forced to eat previously-buried human remains! Again, a show is not likely to do this, but "Fear Factor" has had plenty of horribly sickening stunts in its run. Which is not a 'food' or combination of 'foods' that players have previously eaten?

Answer: Live baby eels and squid ink

"Fear Factor" has been known for disturbing gross-out stunts, but eating people would probably get them into a lawsuit. The show has been the topic of a lawsuit before though. One man sued NBC because an episode of the show made him feel so disgusted and dizzy that he hit his head on a door frame.

He didn't win any money from the station. Over the years, "Fear Factor" has served up some gross foods that many would find disturbing, disgusting, and just plain weird. Duck embryos, horse rectums, African cave-dwelling spiders, tomato horn worms, Iraqi camel spiders, and what people call 100-year-old egg nog are just a few of the creations that "Fear Factor" has dished out.
3. Fearing the worst, viewers change the channel to an episode of "Survivor" where the contestants were so fed up and so hungry that they began roasting their weakest member on the fire pit. In season two (The Australian Outback), the second member voted out of the game left because of rumors that he had snuck food into the game. What type of food was it?

Answer: Jerky

In the second episode of "Survivor: The Australian Outback", Jerry Manthey, perhaps one of TV's most notorious reality stars spread a rumor in her tribe that Kel Gleason had snuck beef jerky onto the show and was eating it to be the strongest member of the tribe.

The tribe felt that they simply couldn't trust Kel and voted him out after losing the next immunity challenge. Over the years, Jerry Manthey has been known to be one of the infamous reality TV deceivers. She reappeared in the "All-Stars" season of the show, but was voted out of the game (ninth, once again).

She was booed off the reunion show at the end of the season when she tried to tell the viewers about the views against herself and other reality show villains.
4. "The Amazing Race" wasn't any safer for viewers. Racers arriving at an airport were immediately taken to jail after personnel found hunting knives in their backpacks at a security checkpoint. In season 5, contestant Colin Guinn was nearly arrested for refusing to pay a taxi driver the correct amount of money. In which country did this event occur?

Answer: Tanzania

Colin was portrayed as one of the least favourite players in the latter half of "The Amazing Race 5" because of his rage and his lack of respect for his teammate Christie. In leg 8, teams were set to fly to United Arab Emirates, but Colin and Christie were running low on money.

In order to make their flight to Dubai, Colin threw money at the taxi driver and made the flight. He and Christy ultimately came in second place behind popular team Chip and Kim. After the show, Colin proposed to Christie on "The Today Show" and she accepted.
5. On that fateful night, "Beauty and the Geek" was being watched by viewers, and during one challenge the beauties violated the laws of thermodynamics and created perpetual motion machines. Is it true that all of the beauties chosen as contestants on the show have been models or movie stars in their lives?

Answer: No

Sure, in past seasons of the show, viewers have watched beauties who have been NBA cheerleaders, beer spokeswomen, models, and sorority girls, but some have been camp counselors and dental assistants. The 'geeks' on the show have had many important jobs as well.

Some have been computer programmers, medical students, and neurobiologists. On the show, the beauties are often forced to complete tasks that test their knowledge and the geeks are forced to complete tasks that beauties would do (eg. shopping, fashion, etc.).
6. Viewers of CBS' "Big Brother" were surprised by many secrets on the show, but on the day that reality TV went mad, the Big Brother house was hit by a twister! Which season of the show first aired during the 9/11 attacks?

Answer: Season 2

Near the end of this season of the show, the third place contestant, Monica, was shocked to discover the news that the World Trade Centers had been attacked. With most of her family living in New York, Big Brother had told her and the other houseguests that they would keep them updated on the situation.

A week later, not only did one of the previously evicted houseguests have chemotherapy for breast cancer, but Monica's cousin had perished in the attacks. Around the same time, "The Amazing Race" struggled to premiere.

The show, based around traveling around the world, was placed on a temporarily hiatus due to the use of planes and travel to foreign countries. This show later became on of the most famous reality TV shows.
7. On "Hell's Kitchen", viewers expected the head chef to yell at the contestants for their incompetence, but instead, he simply imploded, leaving behind a smoky ash which smelled like gourmet food. What is the name of the host and head chef of the US edition of "Hell's Kitchen"?

Answer: Gordon Ramsey

Chef Ramsey has always been known for his temper and tendency to yell at both his employees and his customers while producing some of the best foods in the world. On "Hell's Kitchen", not only has he done this, but he's smashed plates, tables, and other items in the restaurant. In the end, his final chef ends up being a great cook and they go on to run their own restaurant.
"Hell's Kitchen" has been a popular reality show for the FOX network, which has brought viewers shows like "The Simple Life", "Joe Millionaire" and "Trading Spouses".
8. On the show "Supernanny", top nanny Jo Frost tucked a child into bed before discovering that an escaped convict was on the loose in the house communicating with her on the phone. Sounds an awful lot like "When a Stranger Calls", doesn't it? What is the name of another 'nanny-type' reality show?

Answer: Nanny 911

"Nanny 911" is FOX's answer to ABC's "Supernanny" show, and it doesn't feature just one nanny, but three nannies which go across the United States to save families with misbehaving children. The show even spawned a short-lived spin-off called "Marriage 911" (which aired one episode as a "Nanny 911" special). The nannies of the show also released a "Nanny 911" handbook for viewers to use.
For those of you wondering, "Rescue Me" is a show about firefighters starring Dennis Leary, and it airs on FX!.
9. On "The Biggest Loser", overweight viewers lose hope as the contestants turn to cannibalism in order to prevent themselves from starving at 'the ranch'. The winner of the show gained twenty-nine pounds. In the first season of the show, how much weight did the biggest loser actually lose by the end of the competition?

Answer: 122 pounds

At the end of the first season, Ryan was declared the biggest loser after successfully losing 37% of his initial body weight and decreasing his body fat by 18%. Because of this, he won the $250,000 prize as well. The second largest amount of weight lost was only 79 pounds.

In season two, the winner lost 157 pounds while one of the non-finalists returned having lost 185 pounds. He dropped to 216 pounds from 401 pounds!
10. On "American Inventor", viewers ultimately voted on an invention that would dispose of unwanted singers on "American Idol". Not only that, but it could be a renewable energy source! Which of these people is affiliated with both "American Inventor" and "American Idol"?

Answer: Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell is both a judge on the popular FOX reality show "American Idol" and the creator of the show "American Inventor" where Americans submit inventions in order to have it created and sold to the United States. Simon also aired the unsuccessful reality show "Cupid" on CBS. This show was a dating show which simply couldn't find a mate in its viewers. He also created "America's Got Talent".
In the first season of "American Inventor", Janusz Liberkowski won for his child safety seat invention for cars.
