Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this episode we discover that Claire's abductor is called Charlie and that he's a whiz with computers. Where was Charlie previously employed?

Answer: US Army

Charlie has been recruited by Joe Carroll at the 'recommendation' of a friend. He is an ex-army corporal in cyber-surveillance who was stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan but was discharged due to psychological issues. He's killed before, and he coldly recounts those murders to Carroll in their conversations in jail. Is nobody monitoring those?
2. What does Charlie describe himself as to Claire?

Answer: A follower

Charlie describes himself as "a follower" after Claire sees photos and videos of herself in Charlie's possession. He admits that he has been following her for about two years now, and he also has video of her while she's fast asleep in her bed. He admits that Emma (Denise) had no idea that he was even around and that there are parts of Carroll's plans that are hidden from other followers.
3. Jacob is initially scared of tying up Ryan Hardy. What does Emma do to Hardy that incapacitates him so that Jacob can tie him up?

Answer: Tasers him

Ryan Hardy, who is now a hostage himself, is toying with Jacob, Paul and Emma. Jacob is scared of getting within two feet of Hardy because he's afraid that Hardy will break his neck. Ryan promotes this idea, even when Paul says that he'd shoot him, as Hardy says that Jacob would still have a broken neck. Hardy must have surmised that Paul has a soft spot for Jacob.

Emma, enraged that the police are surrounding the farmhouse, Tasers Ryan and says that the Taser was Joe's idea and she knew that it would interfere with Hardy's pacemaker. Hardy, now groaning and barely moving, is tied up by Jacob.
4. Parker tries to get inside Emma's mind as they talk on the phone. Parker makes special note of some murals that Emma painted at her old home. Who does Parker mention that the murals all resemble?

Answer: Emma's mother

Parker tries to mess with Emma's psyche and points out that all of the murals back in Emma's old house resemble Emma's mother. Parker asks Emma how much she really misses her mother, and Emma, enraged once again, says that she killed her mother to break free. Parker further angers Emma by saying that instead of following her mother's orders, now Emma follows Joe Carroll's orders, but Emma counters by saying that it's her choice to follow Carroll, while she was given no choice about who her parents were.
5. In Parker's flashbacks, she remembers her parents and her past. Her family used to belong to a cult. Who was the leader of that cult?

Answer: Dale

Debra Parker, as a child, grew up as a cult member because her parents had joined. However, in one of her flashbacks, Parker remembers that when she became 'of age', the cult leader, Dale, had her alone in a room and started to make sexual advances on her. Because she was young, inexperienced and terrified, Parker didn't give in to the cult leader and this caused her to leave the cult and her family.
6. Ryan Hardy, as a hostage, pushes Jacob's buttons enough to cause him to try and kill Megan. Paul pulls Jacob off of Megan, but, in the commotion, what does Ryan take from off of a nearby table?

Answer: A knife

Paul, not really aware of how to handle a hostage situation, leaves a knife from the kitchen within reach. When an enraged Jacob snaps and goes at Megan, the other hostage, Paul tries to restrain Jacob, who's screaming that nobody thinks he can do it. In the fracas, Ryan Hardy snatches up the knife from off of the table and hides it up his sleeve.
7. Claire notes that the oft-mentioned "Roderick" who is coordinating things for Joe Carroll must be an assumed name. From which of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories does she say this name comes from?

Answer: The Fall of the House of Usher

"The Fall of the House of Usher" is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe (who else?) where the story revolves around Roderick Usher, his sister, and the narrator, all in one large mansion belonging to the Usher family. In a nutshell, the narrator is told by Roderick that the sister has passed on and she needs to be laid out in the family crypt for two weeks, untouched. Throughout the week, the narrator and Roderick note that something is amiss, but, after a week has passed, Roderick comes to the narrator's bedroom which is situated directly atop the crypt. Eventually, after an eerie story-within-the-story is told, the door bursts open and it's the sister.

She falls into Roderick's arms and they both fall to the ground, dead as doornails. The narrator flees the house, and, while looking back, sees it crack in half.
8. Charlie does something he knows to be improper. What does he do?

Answer: Kisses Claire

Charlie has been following Claire and, almost cliché, has fallen for her. He fell for her years ago, and admitted as much to Joe Carroll in one of his flashbacks, but Joe said that it was easy to fall for Claire. Charlie, almost impulsively, kisses Claire, however, she pushes him away immediately. Disgusted with his actions, Charlie begins to bash his own head against a post in the basement to the point where it draws blood.
9. Who gets stabbed by Ryan Hardy?

Answer: Paul

Ryan Hardy has managed to conceal the knife up his sleeve for quite some time, and he's also managed to cut his own bonds. When Jacob discovers that Emma is gone and she's taken Joey with her, Hardy uses that distraction to leap out of his chair and to stab Paul in the gut. Jacob moves towards Hardy and gets punched in the face for his efforts.

Ryan frees Megan and runs out of the house with her. When Jacob tries to pursue them, he sees several laser sights targeting him and he leaps back inside the house.
10. Which of the FBI agents gets shot by the fake local cop from Dutchess County?

Answer: Mike

Mike, who has been riding around the county with the small and innocent-looking local cop Ava, is about to make an arrest on Emma as she's coming out of the farmhouse with Joey. Sadly for him, Ava is not as nice as she looks; in fact, she is actually one of Joe Carroll's followers and she shoots Mike without hesitating. Luckily for Mike, he is wearing a bulletproof vest and he merely has his breath knocked out of him.

He is happened upon by Ryan Hardy, hot in pursuit, and he manages to relay the information that Ava is actually dark and sinister, not friendly at all.
