Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who does Marguerite marry?

Answer: Percival Blakeney

Chauvelin wants to marry Marguerite, and is disgusted with her when she falls for Sir Percival Blakeney. Marguerite is said to be the most brilliant actress in France, while Percy is said to be the richest man in England.
2. Who is Armond St. Just?

Answer: Marguerite's brother

Armond works as Chauvelin's assistant, and then joins the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel. He uses his position as Chauvelin's assistant to gain useful information about the French Republic and their plans.
3. Who is Chauvelin?

Answer: A man employed by the French Republic

Throughout the movie, Chauvelin's highest goal is to find the Scarlet Pimpernel. When he finally discovers that the mysterious man is Percy, the pair ends up in a sword fight. Percy handily defeats Chauvelin, and then has him locked up.
4. What is the name of Percy's yacht?

Answer: The Daydream

The last scene of the movie takes place aboard the Daydream, as Marguerite quotes Percy's poem, "The Scarlet Pimpernel".
5. According to Blakeney, what is a pimpernel?

Answer: A common wayside flower

Percy's orders are always sealed with the pimpernel emblem, stamped in red wax. This is how his men know that the message they are reading is from the real Scarlet Pimpernel. After Percy is imprisoned, he gives his signet ring, with the pimpernel emblem, to Marguerite so that she can issue orders to his men.
6. Who is Marguerite's understudy?

Answer: Louise

Louise fills in for Marguerite when the latter goes to see her brother Armond, who has been injured. Louise and Armond are later engaged to be married.
7. What does Percy disguise himself as at the very beginning of the film?

Answer: A coffin-man

Dressed as a peasant, Percy saves a Count, his wife and boy by hiding them in empty coffins and pretending to take them elsewhere to be buried.
8. With whom of the following does Marguerite dance?

Answer: Chauvelin

Chauvelin uses dancing with Marguerite as an opportunity to again try to convince her to work as a spy for the French Republic. He wants her to try to discover the identity of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Little does either know at his point, that the Scarlet Pimpernel is Marguerite's husband, Percival Blakeney.
9. Which of the following is a favorite saying of Percy's?

Answer: Sink me!

The last line of the movie is Percy saying to Marguerite, "Sink me! The lady's a poet." Percy always uses the line "sink me" when he puts on his lazy, idiotic attitude, which is a cover-up for his true identity. He keeps the fact that he is the Scarlet Pimpernel hidden from everyone except his men.
10. Who portrays Sir Percival Blakeney in this film?

Answer: Anthony Andrews

This entire movie centers around Percy Blakeney, who is the mysterious Scarlet Pimpernel. His mission is to save as many aristocrats from the guillotine as he possibly can.

Anthony Andrews also played Tommy Beresford in "Marple: By the Pricking of My Thumbs", a 2006 television film.
