1. Who led Texas in the Battle of San Jacinto?

Answer: Sam Houston

On April 21, 1836, the Battle of San Jacinto began. General Sam Houston led Texas into battle to avenge what happened at the Battle of the Alamo just forty-six days earlier. Texas has adopted three state mammals. The armadillo (state small mammal), the Mexican free-tailed bat (state flying mammal) and the Texas longhorn (state large mammal). Between the years 1997-2000, the Houston Comets won the WNBA Championships four years in a row.
2. Before frontiersman Davy Crockett moved to Texas, he was a congressman representing which state?

Answer: Tennessee

Crockett was born on August 17, 1786. After losing his first run for office in 1824, Crockett was elected to office as a Congressman in Tennessee in 1827. On October 31, 1835, Crockett left Tennessee and went to explore the state of Texas. Crockett was killed on March 6, 1836, the last day of the infamous Battle of the Alamo.

In 2008, Texas ranked second in population (after California) and second in area (after Alaska). Nicknamed "The Lone Star State", Texas has a ranch, called The King Ranch, that is larger than the state of Rhode Island.

After being its very own country, the nation flag of the Republic of Texas was adapted as the state flag when Texas joined the union. On the Texas state flag it has been noted that red symbolizes bravery, purity is represented by white and blue is symbolic of loyalty.

It has been reported that more wool comes form the state of Texas than any other state in the union. Kelly Clarkson, the first ever winner of "American Idol", was born and raised in Texas.

Answer: Santa Anna

Born on February 21, 1794, Mexican General and former President of Mexico Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna led the charge against Texas at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Santa Anna died on June 21, 1876, a full forty years after the Battle of the Alamo ended in San Antonio. Texas has been reported to have more species of bat than any other place in the nation. From 1836-1845, Texas was its own country.
5. Invented in Texas, what year did the first ever cattle drive take place?

Answer: 1867

The first large scale cattle drive took place in 1866, with cowboys attempting to take their cattle from Texas to Chicago. It was estimated that 3.5 million people occupying Texas in 2004 were born in another country. Given where Texas is located, it is safe to assume that the majority of the 3.5 million were born in neighboring Mexico.

Texas has been home to the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, the MLB's Texas Rangers and Houston Astros and the NBA's Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks.

A population of roughly sixteen million cattle called Texas home in 2007. The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman, a one-time Texas native and coach at Rice University. The year was 1885, the city was Waco and the event was Dr Pepper being invented by Charles Alderton.

The Battle of the Alamo began on February 23, 1836 and ended on March 6 of the same year. It is worth mentioning that every defender at the Battle of The Alamo died, including Davy Crockett. Texas has been discovered to have more airport's than any other U.S. state, with 422 airports operational in 2008.

The Will Rogers Memorial Center, located in Fort Worth, Texas, is an 85 acre establishment, dedicated to Rogers himself.

Answer: 46 days

The oldest art museum in Texas, The Modern, was founded in 1892. Fort Worth, Texas has opened an establishment called the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. In the year 1900, over 8,000 deaths occurred when a hurricane hit Galveston, also causing $99.4 billion in damage. Hurricane Katrina in 2005, only cost $81 billion in damage.
