Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode begins with Bart and Homer running through Springfield being chased by an angry mob. The aforementioned mob are angry because Bart has decapitated the statue of which beloved town figure?

Answer: Jebediah Springfield

Bart is carry the decapitated head of Jebediah Springfield's statue. The statue itself resides in the centre of the town, and whilst most of Springfield's residents just ignore it 99% of the time, when it gets defaced it engulfs the Springfield townspeople into a vengeance-seeking mob. This would not be the last time Springfield became an angry mob in "The Simpsons" by a long shot!
2. We head back in time to before the opening scene as the Simpson family are on their way to church. Bart is forced to relinquish a slingshot and a comic book before they go, whilst Homer is busy watching a sports game that he has gambled $50 on. What sport was he watching?

Answer: Football

It's a Sunday morning game apparently as Homer watches his team, but whilst he is quick to claim "it's not gambling it's a guaranteed win", it doesn't seem to be going to plan on the field. Within the small amount of time we hear commentary Homer's team concedes a touchdown, then fumbles the ball to concede another touchdown shortly afterwards!
3. The family head to church with Homer still desperately listening to the game on the radio, and then during the church service on Bart's personal stereo. Homer may have been wise to listen to Reverend Lovejoy's sermon as the subject is on what?

Answer: Dangers of Gambling

Whilst Homer ticks all the boxes for those dangers it is the more direct reference to the episode of gambling that Reverend Lovejoy speaks about. A last second field goal in the football game is about to take place, and when the kick is good Homer leaps up in celebration during the service: "IT'S GOOD! IT'S GOOD! It's... good to see you all in church!"
4. On the way back from church Bart sees that a new film has come out and he wants to go and see it, however Marge doesn't want Bart to see such a violent film. What is the name of the film that Bart wants to see?

Answer: Space Mutants IV

The film in question this time is "Space Mutants IV", although both "The Bloodening" and the "Itchy and Scratchy Movie" are featured in other "Simpsons" episodes. "Dial M For Murderousness" is my favourite Troy McClure 'movie credit'. Bart ends up meeting the major bullies of Springfield, Dolph, Jimbo and Kearney, who convince Bart to sneak in the back door of the cinema to watch the movie for free.
5. Bart and the bullies get kicked out of the cinema for sneaking in, and they head to the Kwik-E-Mart. Bart spends the money he didn't need to use for the cinema on Squishees for his new "friends", but what are they doing whilst Bart buys the drinks?

Answer: Stealing

Bart soon realises that the bullies used the opportunity of Bart distracting Apu to steal as much as they could get their hands on. They thank him for the distraction so they could get their "five-fingered discount". Of course all "The Simpsons" characters only have four fingers (except God) but let's not pick holes in things...
6. After the Kwik-E-Mart the boys head to the centre of town where they look at clouds and throw stones at the statue saying it would be "cool if someone cut its head off". Meanwhile Homer is deciding what to spend his gambling wins on. What does he decide to buy?

Answer: New bowling ball

The ball Homer wants to buy even has it's own name, "The Stealth Bowler". Homer gives us the sales pitch: "Black, marbleised with a liquid centre. The Stealth Bowler. The pins don't know what hit 'em!" I feel I should take this time to admit that I myself am terrible at bowling.
7. Bart is conflicted; he wants to be a "cool kid" by hanging out with the cool bullies, but he also doesn't want to become as bad as they are. He goes to his father for advice. Homer's advice can be found in this quote, but what word is missing? "Being _______ is the most important thing in the world!"

Answer: Popular

Homer unintentionally ends up being the catalyst for Bart going to decapitate the statue by telling him this. Bart thinks that the only way he can become popular is by doing what the bullies said would be cool - sawing the head off Jebediah Springfield's statue.
8. Bart decapitates the statue and immediately feels guilty about doing so. The next morning the town is in outrage over what has happened with the townspeople in a mix of anger and sadness. Which TV personality reaches out to his audience for help catching the culprit by saying, "If you know who cut off Jebediah's head, I don't care if it's your brother, your sister, your daddy, or your mommy, turn them in!"?

Answer: Krusty The Clown

Krusty interrupts his regularly scheduled clown show to beg the children watching to turn in even their closest family members if they know what happened. It's not without it's rewards though; "If you do, Krusty will send you a free slide whistle, just like Sideshow Bob's!"
9. Bart takes the head to the bullies as a trophy to show what he's done to impress them. Are the bullies happy that Bart has defaced the statue?

Answer: No

Despite their talk of how much they wanted someone to saw the head off the day before the bullies completely change their attitude when Bart actually does it. Kearney says if they saw the guy who did it, "We'd break every bone in his stupid little body!" whilst Jimbo defends what they said the day before - "That was just cloud talk!"
10. Bart's guilty conscience begins to play on him to the extent that he believes the head is beginning to talk to him, and with the television being nothing but about the statue he can't escape it. In the end we catch up to the beginning of the episode with Homer and Bart running through the streets. Do the angry mob forgive Bart in the end?

Answer: Yes

Bart points out to the assembled crowd that by taking the head off the statue, it actually brought the crowd together in the unity of defending their town, its founder and its heritage. Bart replaces the head of Jebediah Springfield back on to the statue and apologises to it whilst the mob lose their blood lust and, for some reason, the church bells ring out. Thanks for playing!
