Alaron is a squire from Gwernia castle under command of King Phellis. Alaron starts off the game looking for a farmer, Kendall, in the forest.

Abrecan is the greatest knight in Gwernia, and it says so in the Instruction Booklet. Arturo is a stupid knight who guards the Port Saiid bridge. Gabrion is the chef of Gwernia and Sheridan is the prince who's jealous of Alaron's attention.

Yep, Shamshuk is the evil necromancer who kills Oriana, Alaron's mom. First, Shamshuk wants Alaron to join him and Alaron consider's it but then he tells Alaron he killed Oriana and Alaron snaps and he fights him. Before the match you can chose to have the jester, Ferris, in your group but if you take him and win, he'll take Shamshuk's staff and run.

Niesen is all of these. In Shamshuk's Tower, he sacrifices himself to kill the Fire Lord so that Alaron and his group can continue, making Rheda's work for naught but then you can get Rheda out of your group when Niesen dies. A good choice unless you have her levelled up because you have Donovan, Dougall and Baird up ahead.

When you first visit Gwernia, you must recruit a party. You can have Abrecan and/or Rheda and/or Brenna and/or Godric. The guidebook says you can get Godric but the only place I've been able to get him is Talewok. Anyway, Brenna starts off with a Dagger and it is very weak, it mostly takes off about one or two points of damage so it's a good idea to build up her Throw and give her a Throwing Iron or something. Rheda has a staff, Alaron has a club and there is no knife in the game.

Maxxen is located in a canyon in the Ugarit desert, and it is also a small dungeon where you get a very powerful sword, Lodis' Sword. You need it to kill Lugash, the undead king, in the Burrow. When you finally get to Lodis he talks nonsense about wanting to get up and fight even though he's a ghost, but once you break it to him, he gives you his sword.

Answer: Kitarak

Kitarak lives in the Erromon mountains and won't fight you unless you talk to him. In battle he has six other hobgoblins to help him but if you win, you get an awesome scissor-like sword, the Warfang.

Becan, the old warrior, is the only one old enough to see Gwernia's banner and therefore, he's the only one that cares. If you go there with him, he'll pick it up.

The Spirit talks to you backwards so words like "Rehtorb" can be said as "brother" and so on. You finally get to become one with yourself after you touch it and join.

One is on Chaos Island, and one is at the very end of the game who walks around the battlements when you about to fight Pochargant. It is highly recommended beating the first one (use Wall of Bones) because you get the Marquis Amulet which lets you kill the second one just by using it.
