Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the Princess who summons Musashi at the start of the game? Don't "steak" too much on getting the answer right.

Answer: Fillet

It is Princess Fillet who summons Musashi, believing him to be the legendary "Brave Fencer Musashi" who had once saved her Kingdom from the Wizard of Darkness. She is naturally somewhat put out when he turns out to be a small boy instead. Nevertheless, she entrusts him with the task of defeating the new invaders, with the help of two magic swords.

Princess Toadstool (also known as Princess Peach) is from the "Super Mario" game franchise. Princess Zelda is the title character in the "Legend of Zelda" series, and Jade is a princess in "Dragon Quest XI".

Fillet steak is of course a popular and tasty cut of beef.
2. What is the first name of the so-called "man in the stocks", who Musashi meets on the outskirts of Grillin' Village? Were his parents perhaps fans of the lead singer of rock band Bon Jovi?

Answer: Jon

His full name is Colonel Jon Capriccola, and Musashi first meets him when the Colonel is locked in a set of stocks outside the village. After Musashi has fed and then released him, Jon agrees to help him in his quest. Jon is later revealed to be the deposed crown prince of the empire which has attacked the Kingdom of Allucaneet.

The lead singer in question is of course Jon Bon Jovi.
3. What is the surname of the Mayor of Grillin' Village? It's an appropriate name, given his role.

Answer: Govern

Mayor Govern "governs" Grillin' Village, which is Musashi's home. It is he who asks Musashi to look for the dog belonging to the "man in the stocks", in exchange for information that will help him with his quest.
4. When he arrives at Allucaneet Palace, Musashi meets various people who live and work there. Which of the following is NOT one of them?

Answer: Chef Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay is an award-winning British chef, famous for TV series such as "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" and "The F-Word". He does not appear in this video game, however.

Steward Ribson is an ancient, bearded character who is the princess's chief adviser. Butler Livers assists Ribson, and gives Musashi his first sword, Fusion. Scribe Shanky works in the place library and reads from its books to Musashi.
5. What five items does Musashi have to look for, in order to increase the power of the sword Lumina and thus complete his quest? It sounds as if he might need to read from them.

Answer: Scrolls

The Five Scrolls each have different attributes: the Earth Scroll, Water Scroll, Fire Scroll, Wind Scroll and finally the Sky Scroll. Each of them will make his sword stronger and give him enhanced abilities.
6. What is the name of the evil empire which has invaded the Allucaneet Kingdom? It suggests something that might be useful if you were lost in the desert.

Answer: Thirstquencher

Apparently, this somewhat odd name made a bit more sense in the original Japanese release of the game, when most of the Thirstquencher characters were named after drinks. For some reason, these were changed in the Western release. So, the Thirstquencher leader changed from Tequila (Japanese) to Flatski (Western), while his son Bordeaux became Rootrick and the sisters Liquor and Brandy became Bubbles and Gingerelle.
7. What name is given to the half-vampire, half-zombie creatures which Musashi must fight during his quest? You might get a "buzz" from defeating them.

Answer: Vambees

These fearsome creatures only come out at night, and (like vampires) can be destroyed by sunlight. They live in a dungeon which turns out to exist under the Grillin' Village restaurant. They come in a variety of forms, including "fire", "flying" and "soldier" variants.
8. What is the name of the dog belonging to the "man in the stocks"? It's a name shared with Dan ----, the London-born star of Victorian music hall.

Answer: Leno

Leno the dog is the faithful companion of the "man in the stocks". At the start of the game he is missing, and one of Musashi's first "tasks" is to find him and return him to his owner. Henceforth, Leno accompanies the man on their subsequent adventures.

Dan Leno was the stage name of George Wild Galvin (1860-1904), who was famous both for his music hall act and for his performances as the Dame in the annual Theatre Royal Drury Lane pantomimes.
9. As part of his quest, Musashi must defeat five "Crest Guardians". Which of these is NOT one of them? Hint: It wouldn't qualify as part of the legendary American band founded by Maurice White.

Answer: Steam Knight (Flower Crest)

There is a Steam Knight, but it is a mechanical weapon designed by Rootrick, which is defeated by Musashi during a battle in the palace. There is nothing flowery about it either.

The hint was of course a reference to the US band "Earth, Wind and Fire", which has survived in various formats since its foundation in 1969 and was still active over fifty years later.

For the record, the other two Crest Guardians are Relic Keeper (Water Crest) and Tower of Death (Sky Crest).
10. Who or what is imprisoned within the magic sword Lumina, but is released towards the end of the game?

Answer: The Dark Wizard

The Dark Wizard was the original tyrant who terrorised the Kingdom before being defeated by the first Brave Fencer Musashi, who imprisoned him within the sword. He has been there ever since, until he is released by the villainous Flatski. Fortunately, the new Musashi is able to defeat him and banish him back into the sword again.
