Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Part-machine, this bird flies over Columbia.

Answer: Songbird

Songbird is a particularly interesting specimen for our quiz since it's the only non-biological bird in the list. Found in Irrational Games' "BioShock Infinite" (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), Songbird is often somewhat of a harbinger. Protagonist Booker DeWitt needs to save Elizabeth from Songbird, in a way, since it acts as both her friend and her jailer. Songbird is killed only when Elizabeth uses her ability to tear through alternate realities and timelines, sending it to the underwater world of Rapture as seen in earlier "BioShock" games.
2. You'd be likely to find this bird using your cell phone and lures.

Answer: Pidgey

Pidgey is a relatively weak Pokemon no matter which way you cut it, and its early stage of evolution contributes to why it's so popularly found in the various routes around the "Pokemon" series. You may even find that Pidgeys are common in your area; you can catch them (and fairly easily at that) if you play "Pokemon Go" on your mobile device. Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto and then into Pidgeot, and all three are basic examples of flying and normal-type Pokemon.
3. Originally confined to a backpack, this Breegull set off solo on the Nintendo 64.

Answer: Kazooie

Kazooie the Breegull was one half of the bird/bear duo in "Banjo-Kazooie" (N64) and her debut saw her remain in Banjo's blue backpack for the duration of the 3D platformer. Its sequel, "Banjo-Tooie", however, would allow her to venture out alone, splitting up the bear and bird for temporary bouts (though it was apparent they were strongest together).

While Banjo's first game appearance was in "Diddy Kong Racing", Kazooie never really showed up until they had adventures to embark upon.
4. This owl will start relaying information to you the minute you leave Kokiri Forest.

Answer: Kaepora Gaebora

Kaepora Gaebora (or Kapora Gabora in other games) appears in the "Legend of Zelda" series, and you'll meet him for the first time outside of Kokiri Forest; he acts as somewhat of a railroader...by which I mean he tells you where to go next once in a while.

A large owl, he really only tends to make appearances when Link is a child, but it's clear he has some sort of connection with the Sage of Light-- Rauru-- who's only met in the Temple of Time. The owl returns in "Majora's Mask".
5. He's the only green parrot of this lot.

Answer: Squawks

Squawks the Parrot is one of the few animal buddies to make appearances in the vast majority of "Donkey Kong" games beginning with "Donkey Kong Country" (SNES). While his abilities have varied over time from holding lanterns to carrying Kongs through levels, he's always been a helpful friend.

He wasn't the only bird buddy in the "Donkey Kong Country" series either. "Donkey Kong Country (1)" featured Expresso the Ostrich and in "Donkey Kong Country 2", Quawks the Purple Parrot made a single appearance.
6. Off to the races! This bird is a "Final Fantasy" staple.

Answer: Chocobo

While Chocobos-- flightless, yellow birds-- first appeared as early as "Final Fantasy II" on the Famicom, they really never picked up in popularity until later games leading to racing minigames, breeding in online "Final Fantasy" games, and a "Chocobo" spin-off series across several consoles and handhelds.

Despite the fact that Chocobos were never really playable creatures in most "Final Fantasy" games, they've been, arguably, one of the series' most famous, lasting creations along with Moogles and Cactuar.
7. Use your Megaton Hammer on this guy, and you might face the wrath of the mob.

Answer: Cucco

Another "Legend of Zelda" option, this one was too fun to pass up. Cuccos are chickens found across countless "Legend of Zelda" titles, and while the little guys can be somewhat useful given the right opportunity (and some careful problem-solving), purposely going out of your way to harm any of them will incur their collective wrath. Using a sword or your Megaton Hammer on these creatures (in "Ocarina of Time", for instance) will cause them to sound the alarm and attack you en masse. You deserve it, after all.
8. His ultimate attack: Supernova.

Answer: Phoenix

Phoenix appears in the MOBA "Dota 2" as one of over one hundred playable characters, and while he's not one of the only ones who flies to move around the battlefield, he is one of the very few bird characters you can control. In battle, Phoenix spends time doing exactly what you would expect a phoenix to do-- shoot fire, fly swiftly, and kill itself to be reborn in a regenerated form.

The last of these abilities, Supernova, places Phoenix into a burning egg which will burst after a short time, birthing a new Phoenix, but it can be killed fairly swiftly if you're not careful.
9. This hammer-wielding Kirby foe is actually a penguin.

Answer: King Dedede

First appearing in the earliest "Kirby" games, King Dedede has been an on-and-off-again major boss and occasional friend to Kirby since the get-go, often found wielding his mallet and getting in the way of Kirby's attempts to save Dreamland from evil.

While it's not entirely clear what type of bird he is, the assumption for most is that he's a penguin. His fortitude in battle would be further examined in the "Super Smash Bros." series when he, along with Meta-Knight, would be the first "Kirby" series characters to appear other than the titular hero himself.
10. This bird flies with Slippy Toad and Peppy Hare.

Answer: Falco

Falco Lombardi is Star Fox's second-in-command and he's appeared in most "Star Fox" games since its debut on the SNES. While Falco has always seemed a bit stuck-up, his most ardent fans would probably vouch for his usefulness in the "Super Smash Bros." series where, like Fox, his agility on the battlefield is often unmatched. Typically though, he acts as a secondary character in the "Star Fox" rail shooter series, assisting the player in battles depending on the scenario and if he makes it through to that point in the levels.
