"Gears of War 1 and 2" Locusts Quiz

Quite frequently throughout the campaigns of both "Gears Of War" games you will hear characters refer to Locust soldiers as Grubs. Grunts are not a Locust unit.

Answer: Maulers and Butchers

Maulers use flails and Butchers use sharp metal in devastating hand-to-hand combat. Boomers use a rocket-launcher-type ranged weapon called the Boomshot and Grinders use a handheld turret chain gun called the Mulcher.

Answer: Mauler

Maulers are armed with flails and are the only Locusts armed with Boomshields. Grubs are armed with basic weapons, Boomers are armed with Boomshot, and Skorge is armed with a chainsaw staff.

Answer: King Raven

This is a trick question.The King Raven is actually the COG workhorse helicopter that is used for both air support and as a dropship for COG troops. The Nemacyst are anti-air projectiles, Reavers are air assault units and the Hydra is Skorges air beast.

Answer: Seeders

Seeders create and fire Nemacyst. They are the only Locust that can create other Locusts. You encounter three Seeders early on in "Gears Of War 1" and are forced to eliminate them with the Hammer of Dawn.

Answer: Beserkers

The Beserker is the only known female species. They are blind and rely on sound and smell to hunt. They are almost indestructible and are unaffected by normal ammo. The Berserkers need to be killed with the Hammer of Dawn. If you are playing co-op, while one person is using the Hammer of Dawn the other person can Grenade-tag the Berserker and kill it that way instead.

You ride all three of the other beasts in "Gears of War 2". The Beast Barge is about a quarter of the way into the game, the Reaver is toward the end (you fight Skorge while riding a Reaver), and you ride the Brumak in the end of the game just before it turns Lambent.

In the training area of "Gears Of War 2", what Carmine refers to as a weird monkey-dog is actually a monkey-like Locust called a Wretch. Wretches attack by jumping and swinging their arms at you. They can be dispatched easily by bullets, chainsaw and by melee attacks such as pistol whipping. In first "Gears Of War", you encounter Lambent Wretches.

In the first "Gears Of War", you encounter hundreds of Lambent Wretches which are riddled through the games. Locusts become Lambent after direct contact with emulsion. In "Gears Of War 2", in order to sink Jacinto and flood the Locust Hollows you need to kill the Brumak you were riding when it turns Lambent.

Answer: Kryll

Kryll, like Berserkers only appear in the first "Gears Of War". They can only attack in the dark and die if exposed to too much light. The only way to survive night time levels is to stay in the light. In the final boss battle, RAAM uses the Kryll as a shield and Hoffman is in a King Raven using a UV spotlight to help you out.
