Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Each team member gives you a special mission called a Loyalty Mission. These usually include family or old friends and unsettled disputes. During Miranda's Loyalty mission, she expresses concern for which family member?

Answer: Her Sister

Miranda has a genetically identical twin named Oriana, though Oriana is much younger than her sister (only 19 while Miranda is 35).

Miranda had no mother. She was created entirely from her father's genome, and designed to be the perfect woman. Miranda grew to resent her father and decided to run away, but her father had all ready started to create Oriana. Miranda refused to let another child grow up around her father, so she took her sister with her when she ran to Cerberus. Cerberus placed Oriana with a foster family on Illium.

During "Mass Effect 2" Miranda approaches Shepard and explains that her father has located Oriana and is planning to take her. Miranda's Loyalty Mission has you ensure that Oriana is safely relocated along with the rest of her family before her biological father can take her away. Your enemies in this mission are the Blue Suns mercenaries. At the end of the mission, you have the option to recommend that Miranda talk to her sister.
2. When you find Garrus he is being harassed by three different gangs. Which of the following is not a gang trying to kill him?

Answer: Cerberus

After Shepard "died", Garrus continued in the field of law enforcement, but got tired of the bureaucracy and red tape at C-Sec. Instead he started his own campaign against lawbreakers by going to hub of organized crime: Omega.

When Shepard first meets him, Garrus says, "At least it's not hard to find criminals here. All I have to do is point my gun and shoot".

All three major gangs of Omega(Blue Suns, Blood Pack, and Eclipse) hate each other and avoid each other unless they're at war. It really speaks to Garrus' character and skill that he managed to get them to team up against him. The only major player on Omega that he did not irritate was Aria, the leader of Omega Station. Had he done that, he probably would have been dead a long time ago.

You can meet each of these gangs elsewhere in the galaxy, but never together.

Cerberus is the organization that brought Shepard back to life at the beginning of "Mass Effect 2". Cerberus was in "Mass Effect", but was considered a fanatical terrorist organization, and they only came up in a few side missions.
3. What weapon class can the soldier NOT use?

Answer: Sub-Machine Guns

Soldiers specialize in being skillful with a number of weapon types. They are one of the two classes that can use sniper rifles (the other being the Infiltrator), and one of the two classes that can use shotguns (the other being the Vanguard). They are also the only class that can use assault rifles.

They cannot use submachine guns, which are available to every other class. They are weaker than assault rifles and less accurate than heavy pistols, but have large ammo reserves.

There is a point in the game where a character of any class can receive training with either shotguns, sniper rifles, or assault rifles. If a character all ready has training with one of these weapon types, then an extremely powerful weapon of that class will be available.

Soldiers get the unique Adrenaline Rush ability, which slows down time and increases damage for short period. Coupled with their excellent armor and health regeneration, Soldiers can dish out and take a lot of damage. The Soldiers' downside is that they lack tech and biotic powers, so they cannot manipulate the battlefield as easily and have to rely on brute force.
4. What did Mordin do during his time in the Salarian Special Tasks Group?

Answer: Modified the Genophage

Mordin is a Salarian scientist who was once part of the Salarian Special Tasks Group (STG). While his primary love is science and engineering, he is quite combat capable and has a number of special abilities that he can use on the battlefield, such as Incinerate, Cryo Blast, and Neural Shock.

During the Krogan Rebellions, 1500 years before "Mass Effect 2" takes place, the Turians used their impressive military to keep the Krogans at bay, but they were fighting a losing fight until Salarian scientists came forward with the Genophage. This virus infected every Krogan and reduced fertility rates so that only one in one thousand Krogan infants were viable. With their population suddenly being reduced to a "manageable" level, the rebellions stopped.

Some time before "Mass Effect 2", the krogan began to naturally overcome the effects of the Genophage. Mordin was part of a team created to redesign the Genophage, and maintain the krogan birth rates.

In both "Mass Effect" and "Mass Effect 2" the Genophage has played a key role when concerning Krogan allies. In the first game, Wrex got very upset when he learned that Saren had a lab set up to research and cure the Genophage. In "Mass Effect 2", Grunt is found when Shepard seeks out Warlord Okeer, who at the time was trying to create a genetically perfect Krogan as a way around the Genophage.
5. Which element can you not mine for?

Answer: Silver

In order to research upgrades for weapons, armor, omni-tools, biotic amps, and the Normandy SR-2, you need resources. There are four resources that are used in "Mass Effect 2", and they are: Iridium, Palladium, Platinum, and Element Zero.

You can sometimes find refined stores of these elements during your travels, but a majority will probably come from scanning planets and launching probes. Most planets can be scanned. As you move the scanner across the planet you will find deposits of these elements, and you then have to launch a probe to collect them.

Each element is used for upgrades in different areas. For example, platinum is used for shotgun and sniper rifle upgrades.
6. Which of the following is not a correct matchup according to the dossiers given by Cerberus?

Answer: Mordin - The Assassin

When you are initially recruiting new members for your team, their dossiers usually use a codename. Mordin is actually known as "The Scientist" (though he did work in the Salarian STG, so he would probably make a good assassin), and Thane is known as "The Assassin".

It is recommended by the Illusive Man and Miranda that you seek out Mordin first for his scientific abilities to help you against the Collectors.

Thane is a Drell, a new species introduced in "Mass Effect 2". The Drell live on the Hanar homeworld and are quite often trained to perform functions that Hanar cannot, such as assassination. They also have picture-perfect memory.

It is revealed that Thane is quite religious, and his Loyalty Mission has you help him keep his son, Kolyat, out of the same kind of lifestyle.
7. The Collectors are actually descendants of which race?

Answer: Protheans

You make this revelation on the abandoned Collector Vessel. It turns out that the Reapers took Protheans and remodeled them to be more suitable as slave labour. The Reapers performed extensive genetic modification to create the Collectors, including removing large amounts of junk DNA and combining chromosomes. The Collecters have three fewer chromosomes than their original Prothean ancestors. All sense of Prothean culture and heritage has also been erased from the Collector minds.

After you learn this you have the option to either acquire a new weapon specialization, or acquire a high level weapon of a specialization that you all ready have.
8. You gain an achievement for defeating a Thresher Maw during whose Loyalty Mission?

Answer: Grunt's

Grunt's Loyalty Mission takes you to the Krogan homeworld of Tuchunka so he can join a clan. The Rite of Passage takes you out into the desert where you have to fight and survive three waves of enemies. The first wave consists of Varren, dog-like pack animals, though they have scaly hides instead of fur, and large teeth. The second wave is of Klixen, bug-like creatures that can breathe fire. They also explode when killed, so don't stand too near. The final wave only consists of a Thresher Maw, but unlike in "Mass Effect", you don't get a Mako. You can either kill the beast or just stay alive for five minutes.

If you kill the Thresher Maw, you will also have to fight Uvenk. He is the leader of Gatatog, a rival clan of Urdnot, the clan Grunt is joining.
9. Who can use both biotic powers and sniper rifles?

Answer: Thane

Shepard can recruit many more characters in "Mass Effect 2" than the previous game. This means that the characters don't necessarily line up with one of the six possible classes for Shepard as well as they did in "Mass Effect".

Thane can use biotic powers and Sniper Rifles, which makes him an excellent ranged killer. Garrus has a few tech abilities and also uses sniper rifles, making him an excellent choice for taking out synthetics at long range. Miranda has both Overload (tech), Warp, and Slam (biotics) available to her, but no higher level weapons (assault rifles, sniper rifles, or shotguns). Jacob can use biotic powers and shotguns. He can use Pull to bring enemies in close and then blast them with a shotgun round.
10. What is the correct order of story missions?

Answer: Freedom's Progress - Horizon - Collector Cruiser - Derilect Reaper [IFF] - Scuicide mission

Your first mission after escaping the Lazerus Research Station is to head to Freedom's Progress to determine what happened to the human colonists who disappeared. There you meet Tali, who is searching for a Quarian, Veetor, who is on his pilgrimage. When you find him, you also see security footage of the Collectors abducting humans.

After collecting your first few team members you'll get a message to head to Horizon, a human colony that is about to be attacked. At Horizon you fight the collectors for the first time. During your fight on Horizon, the Collector Cruiser is damaged, but manages to escape. After the battle you meet either Ashley or Kaidan, whichever survived the first game.

After a few more missions and team building, you will be told about a Turian patrol that disabled a ship that matches the description of the Collector Cruiser. It is when you are exploring the apparently abandoned cruiser that you learn that the Collectors' ancestors were the Protheans. When you make it to the command console, the Collectors spring a trap, and it turns out that the vessel was never truly disabled in the first place. You barely make it out of the ship and get away.

Eventually you will be notified of a derelict Reaper. It is believed that you will need the Reaper's Identify Friend/Foe (IFF) system to safely pass through the Omega 4 Relay. Unlike the previous missions, this one is not forced, and you can take your time to continue building your crew and gaining loyalty. This is where you meet Legion. After you complete this mission, the Normandy will be attacked and the crew abducted. In order to save the entire crew you have to enter the Omega 4 Relay quickly after this (within one mission).

You still have the option of continuing to recruit your team, gain loyalty, and complete other missions after acquire the IFF, but if you do, large portions of the Normandy's crew will die later in the game.

Your last story mission is the Suicide Mission. This is activated by using the Omega 4 Relay, which is located in the same system that you started the game in. In order to keep your squad alive you have to have researched the Normandy Upgrades (Shields and Cannons). Non-loyal characters have a larger chance of dying during the Suicide Mission, and even loyal one can die if character-specific upgrades have not been researched.

I won't give away the ending, but I hoped you enjoyed the quiz.
