Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Call the magcar again, and search the rocks nearby. The name of an [sic] historian is just four pixels high." This riddle points the way to one of the "keys" that unlock the easter eggs of "Riven". What are the four letters you'll find on the rock?

Answer: RAWA

These letters refer to Richard A. WAtson, who was known as the D'Ni historian. You can find his name on Temple Island near the Mag-Lev. Clicking on this will make your cursor disappear for a second... this is your indicator that says you've found the "key". On a side note, the name "ALEX" is found somewhere in the game... it's a reference to Robyn Miller's son. You'll find his name next to a ladder on Book Assembly Island.
2. Well, if you've found all the "keys", now it's time to find the easter eggs! Which of these is not something that will happen when you find an easter egg?

Answer: You see a "Slinky" commercial

You do in fact see a commercial for one of these easter eggs, but it's a combination of a commericial for "Hai Karate" cologne, and "Silly Putty". Quite possibly the funniest easter egg, though, is where Gehn sings. Apparently the story goes that while filming, he broke into song between takes... the director asked him to do it again while they were filming.
3. On the opening movie, when you are sent into Riven, you will see many images among the static. Some of these images may disturb you. Who is watching you through as you descend upon the Age of Riven?

Answer: Gehn

When "Riven" was first released, many players wondered at this "subliminal image". This is a form of psychorama, in which images flash so rapidly that a person cannot consciously see the images, yet the mind records them and it leaves the viewer thinking they've seen something.

While entering the Age of Riven, players will see two images of a face... either consciously or subconsciously. This is to give the player the feeling that their entrance into this hostile world is being noted.
4. When you go to Jungle Island, then return to Temple Island, the door to the temple room is closed. But if you didn't close it, who did? What happens when you open the door?

Answer: An image of Gehn is projected into the temple room

When you open this door, don't be startled as a giant image of Gehn appears in the temple room imager (a la "The Wizard of Oz"). He'll watch you for a few seconds, then disappear. Going into the room with the mechanism shows nothing... Gehn has escaped.

As for "Cho", he is the unnamed man who takes your prison book when you begin the game (the first word he says is "cho", so many fans of the game call him such). If you look down the cliff after you're released from the cage, you'll see him lying unconscious on the rocks.

He later leaves, and will only appear again if you fail to imprison Gehn before opening the Star Fissure, in which case he will shoot you with a dart. Game over.
5. While in the underwater viewing chamber, there are many different-colored beacon lights that you can turn on and off. If you turn on the red light, you will call a Wahrk to the viewing window. What will happen on the fourth consective time you call it?

Answer: It rams the window

This is the Wahrk feeding station. The red light summons the Wahrk for a feeding. Each time you call it, the Wahrk will appear and get irritated that you're not feeding it. On the fourth time, it will ram the window and then swim away. Turning on the red beacon light again does nothing... the Wahrk won't be tricked again for a while.
6. Atrus mentions that Gehn is infamous for writing flawed Ages. Apparently he also has a hard time getting his Linking Books to work properly as well. He uses the Fire Marble domes to power them. Back in ancient D'ni, what was a fire marble really used for?

Answer: Light sources

The fire marbles are rocks with a natural luminescence that were placed in lamps and used as a light source. Another source of light within the city of D'ni was a bioluminescent algae in the lake. The algae and the fire marbles gave D'ni the air of unending dusk.
7. When you begin the game, you pick up where you left off in "Myst". Atrus is still writing in the Riven book, trying to hold the Age together. Where in D'ni is he writing this book?

Answer: K'veer

K'veer was an island in the city in which one of the people instrumental to D'ni's downfall - Veovis - lived. The entire story of the fall of D'ni is in "Myst: The Book of D'ni". This was also Gehn's base of operations until he was imprisoned on Riven and also where he imprisoned Atrus.
8. A key part to the game is identifying the stone eyes, the animal sounds, and what animals they belong to. To hear the Sunners, what must you do?

Answer: Walk slowly toward them

When you first see the Sunners, stop. Wait until the one puts its head down and stops moving, then take another step closer. Stop and wait until it stops moving again, then take another step. If you get close enough to it without scaring it off, it'll make a sound identical to the one found on the stone eye.
9. The easter eggs were all given by a spider that walked around Cyan's headquarters and told stories of the game's production. What was the name of this fictitious spider?

Answer: Spyder

Spyder had a webpage: cho.cyan.com. On there you'll find an image map. Find the spider on it and click it. This leads you to the riddles that lead to the easter eggs of "Riven".
10. What does the first "key" to the easter eggs refer to?

Answer: An egg

"Where creatures float and waters rise/only one of five will open/the one that stands out is your prize/small, orange and unbroken." In order to access the easter eggs, this is the riddle you must solve first. Click the small orange egg ONCE and head off to solve the next riddle.
