Answer: Five

The Five Tenets originally governed the Dark Brotherhood. They were as follows:
1) Never disrespect the Night Mother. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
2) Never betray the Dark Brotherhood or its secrets. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
3) Never disobey an order from a Dark Brotherhood superior. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
4) Never attempt to steal from a Dark Brother or Dark Sister. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
5) Never attempt to kill a Dark Brother or Dark Sister. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
The Wrath of Sithis is a ghost which Sithis sends to attack those who break the Tenets.
2. What race was the Night Mother in life?

Answer: Dunmer

It is said that Sithis once came to a Dunmer woman who had five children. Sithis decreed that if she killed all of her children, she could marry him. The woman accepted and did as she was told. However, the people of her village learnt of her deed and chased her into a wooden building, which they burnt to the ground.

It was many years later that the wreckage was removed, and the woman and children's remains were found. However, Sithis had granted the woman's wish, and her rotting corpse lived on, recruiting her finders as the first Dark Brothers and Dark Sisters.
3. Which of the following Daedra is once said to have appeared as the Night Mother, however this was later deemed incorrect?

Answer: Mephala

Mephala was not in fact the Night Mother but the Daedric Prince of secrets, murder and sex. She created her own assassins' guild in Morrowind named the Morag Tong.

Answer: The Silver Hand

The Silver Hand is a bandit organisation in Skyrim comprising of Werewolf hunters. They are the primary antagonists in the Companion's questline.

Answer: Keeper

The Keeper takes care of the Night Mother. Their task is to protect and oil the corpse of the said Unholy Matron. Cicero may have previously been Listener, and he certainly wished to be!

The Shadowscales are Argonians born under the sign of the Shadow. As eggs, the Hist decree that they are to be given into the possession of the Dark Brotherhood. They are then trained as elite assassins.
7. In which city in Cyrodiil can the Hero of Kvatch enter a Sanctuary?

Answer: Cheydinhal

Though there are Sanctuaries in virtually every Cyrodiilic city at the time of the Oblivion Crisis, the Hero of Kvatch can only enter the one he is enrolled in at Cheydinhal. He can, however, visit the corpse of the Night Mother beneath the statue of the Lucky Old Lady in Bravil.
8. Who is Lucien Lahance's horse?

Answer: Shadowmere

Shadowmere bears the symbol of the Black Hand, and is the incredibly strong and fast immortal steed of the Speaker Lucien Lahance. He appears in both the Oblivion Crisis and the Stormcloak Rebellion. During the latter, he becomes the steed of the Dark Brotherhood Listener, the Dragonborn.
9. What is the Blade of Woe?

Answer: A dagger

The Blade of Woe is given to the Dragonborn by Astrid during the Stormcloak Rebellion. It absorbs the health of its victims, and is made of ebony. The Dragonborn uses it to kill the dying Astrid, Mistress of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, thereby sealing the Dark Sacrament on Emperor Titus Mede II's assassination.
10. What is the name of the Contact who gives the Dragonborn their first major Contract in the Dark Brotherhood?

Answer: Muiri

Muiri asks the Dragonborn to kill a bandit leader who caused her to lose personal integrity and the respect of her family. She also says she will pay extra for the death of the family member in Clan Shatter-Shield who exiled her.
