Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You want to make a quiz on "Final Fantasy VIII". Which of the following is required in the introduction of the quiz?

Answer: The fact that "Final Fantasy VIII" is for Playstation

The introduction of your quiz is supposed to give some background information. Although the release year and company that made the game might be included in the introduction, the system the game is played on is required. This is because remakes of games for other systems may have slight differences.
2. An editor sends you a rejection note on your quiz. You go over your quiz and absolutely cannot find what the editor is talking about. What do you do?

Answer: Contact the editor and ask him or her politely to clarify

Editors are generally online at least every other day and will be happy to address your questions, as long as you're polite. Deleting your quiz doesn't solve anything unless you have completely lost interest in it. Both saying the error has been corrected without doing anything and using the not an error option, even if done politely, is disrespectful to the editor that checked your quiz. Communicating with the editor that checked your quiz is most likely to get the problem solved, although this is rarely put to practice.
3. A question on a "Donkey Kong" quiz reads as follows: "What does Donkey Kong throw at Jump Man in the first level?" The correct answer is "Barrels". Which would be acceptable interesting information for this question?

Answer: The player can jump over the barrels or hit them with a hammer. The barrel theme shows up again in the "Donkey Kong Country" series.

In the Video Games category, each question needs two sentences of interesting information. In order to count, interesting information must be both factual (not the author's opinion) and additive (doesn't just repeat the answer to the question). The correct answer demonstrates all these rules while the others are deficient in one or more areas. If you missed this, can you find what's wrong? On your quizzes, try to make your interesting information as creative and insightful as you can.
4. You're a big fan of "Final Fantasy" and decide to make a quiz dedicated to the series. Would the question "What is the currency in all "Final Fantasy" games?" be accepted?

Answer: No

The major error here is that this question is time based. In other words, it is based on only "Final Fantasy" games that were released prior to the creation of the quiz; it doesn't take into account future "Final Fantasy" games. If you know "Final Fantasy", you also know that, already, different currencies exist in different games (GP and Gil, to name two).
5. What is wrong with the following question: "Which of these is the name of a character in GTA3?"

Answer: Both of these apply.

The name of the game must be spelled out because not everyone knows what "GTA3" stands for. Of course the author creating the quiz knows it's "Grand Theft Auto 3", but some quiz takers take quizzes to learn about the topic. Therefore, not all quiz takers will be familiar with the abbreviation. Names of games must be put inside quotation marks, as well as names of books, magazines, songs, and the like. Of course direct quotations must be put inside quotation marks as well.
6. Quizzes on games with an "Adults Only" rating are not allowed in the Video Games category.

Answer: False

Quizzes on any game may be done if they're done tastefully. Just because a game has a stern rating, however, does not mean that only adults will be taking your quiz on that game. Because of this, all quiz material must be G-rated; no questions that may be considered offensive are allowed in any category.
7. Which quiz title is done appropriately?

Answer: Pokémon Crystal

The name of a game, if done as a complete quiz title, does not need to be put in quotation marks. However if the name of a game appears as a part of a quiz title, it does need quotation marks.

Titles should also be concise. As a general rule in this category, five words is the most you want to have. More explanation, if necessary, can be put in the introduction.
8. A fill in the blank about fill in the blanks: On a ten question quiz in the "Halo" subcategory, what is the most number of questions that can be fill in the blank format?

Answer: 5

Even the most experienced quiz makers can only dedicate half their questions to fill in the blank. Fill in the blanks may only be used by authors with three or more quizzes online. Fill in the blanks, generally, should be used sparingly in the Video Games category (two or three out of ten is the most I'd recommend): mostly for questions with one specific indisputable answer.

The only exception to this rule is the Video Games Wordplay category. Quizzes in this category are expected to consist completely of fill in the blank questions.
9. Question two in a quiz you're making asks for the name of the most powerful sword in the game. The answer to the question is "Excalibur". You want the very next question to ask where the Excalibur is found. Which phrasing of the question would NOT be accepted by the editors?

Answer: Where is the sword in question two found?

"Where is the sword in question two found?" is the correct answer since this would not be accepted by the editors. The reason for this is, if the question were put into an hourly game, the player would have no idea what "the sword in question two" is.

The best phrasing would probably be "Where is the most powerful sword in the game found?". The other two mention the name of the sword, Excalibur. This may clue the quiz taker in to the answer to the previous question, so it might not be the best way to phrase the question for a challenging quiz. Nevertheless, they are acceptable ways to phrase the question.
10. Which of these activities will not help equip you to get your Video Games quiz online?

Answer: Making friends with the editorial staff

Hopefully, taking this quiz helped you to understand what makes a good Video Games quiz and some of the guidelines. Playing other Video Games quizzes is also a good idea because it gives you a feel for the kinds of quizzes that are put online. Obviously, reading the category guidelines will help too; the editors use the guidelines when checking quizzes. Making friends with the editors does not absolve a quiz author from following the guidelines, and is the only choice that will not help get your quiz online.
