Why do we wear black arm bands on the left arm?

It denotes that you are in mourning or have been to a funeral. At one time, it was considered in bad taste not to dress in black. These days, not only is it impractical, it can also be expensive. So now an arm band is used and even that isn't very common anymore. At least around here.

sorry brainey blonde but the question was why do we wear black armbands on the LEFT arm?

Probably because the majority of people are right handed so it was easier to put it on the left arm with your right hand
