Used to have a game called "Dover Patrol" when in my early teens........my friend and I played it so often, neither could win (a sort of nautical chess) as we cancelled each other out. Then, we had a unique (and illegal) form on gambling onboard a ship I served in.........anyone remember the horse-racing game "Totopoly"? Never mind the training part of it, we ignored that, did the race, 6d (pre-decimal currency, it was 1960-61 period) a horse......winner take all.......we played it incessantly! Later on in life, I used to enjoy "Risk"...........btw, in 1963'ish my wife refused to play "Ludo" with me on the grounds that I got too bad tempered (well I was used to the naval version called "Uckers"...which got very heated). All the board games that I used to play, I no longer play. I enjoyed games such as Monopoly and Risk. Nowadays, It seems as though everyone is into computer games and board games are now just a distant memory. Reply #44. Sep 20 10, 5:15 AM |

Lou, ain't that the truth. Not to mention some of the board games they come out with nowadays are just.. weird. But you're right, the video game industry has taken over. Reply #45. Sep 21 10, 12:41 PM |

I loved Connect Four, Operation, Trivial Pursuit, and Scrabble. I had a game called, I think, 'I Vant to Bite Your Finger' but the mere thought of sticking my finger into Dracula's mouth freaked me out completely! Mouse Trap was great too but I think my favourite was Kerplunk! Reply #51. Oct 21 10, 2:13 PM |

We played Mousetrap as kids, but usually just ended up building the trap and setting it off instead of playing! We also played Sorry and Monopoly, but most of the time we just played card games. Reply #54. Jan 27 11, 10:19 PM |

My favorite was always Clue and Mousetrap. I still play Clue from time to time. Monopoly is fun when played properly, which is hard to do since it takes a long time to finish. Reply #55. Jan 27 11, 10:53 PM |

I used to play: Monopoly, Cluedo, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders Backgammon, Chess, Draughts, Stratego, Totopoly, Risk, Diplomacy, and we also had an interesting game called Kingmaker which was set in the Wars of the Roses. It involved all the characters (nobles and royalty) from that time and basically you tried to grab a royalty piece and build up your army to fight your opponents, kill their royalty pieces and crown yours. When I was younger there was also a great soccer game called "Subbuteo" which was great fun. You had little model players on rocking bases and you flicked the ball with them to pass to your other players in the hope of eventually scoring a goal. You had to be accurate enough to touch the next player with the ball before he could have a shot, otherwise it was the turn of you opponent. The company nearly went bankrupt in times of modern digital games but someone is still making the sets though I believe they are not as good as the older sets. Reply #59. Aug 04 16, 2:10 AM |

I've just gone and bought a Subbuteo game on e-bay now. I've always wanted one. I used to play round at a friends when young but never had one of my own. I've gone for an older version which is hopefully better quality but seems to have all its pieces intact. Reply #60. Aug 04 16, 4:14 AM |
