I read a lot. I have read my way through several genres & popular (and not so) authors. I just read Kathy Reichs' set. Love Kathy Reichs novels, so much more satisfying than the TV adaptation she advises on, Bones, never read any Patricia Cornwell, but I suspect you would like Ellis Peters' novels, about a mediaeval monk called Cadfael who takes a very scientific and almost forensic approach to exciting and dark mediaeval murders. I've read Ellis Peters' short stories (I think via Ellery Queen?) I get most of my books from thrifts/yard sales etc, so I just haven't run across his series cheaply enough. I usually get a handful of an author on the cheap, and if I like what I read, I'll pick up the rest on Amazon/Ebay. I read all of Steven Saylor's Gordianus the Finder (ancient Rome) "detective" series. I suspect he didn't expect the character to catch on because he advanced his age rather quickly in the first few books. I also liked Sarah Andrews - Em Hansen seies, a forensic geologist. Try the Falco stories by Lindsey Davis, a good Roman whodunnit series. Ellis Peters did a lot of stuff, quite a few historical romances under the real name of Edith Pargeter, she is no longer with us, but I was absolutely stunned to find out that "Ellis" was really a woman, the writing gives no clue, it is non-gendered, but she writes well-rounded men and women, so just a versatile author. I was surprised and oddly let down when I discovered, after the fact, that Memoirs of a Geisha was written by a man. My copy was sans dustjacket and before the movie, so it wasn't until the very end of the book that I read the afternotes by the author on who he had interviewed to add authenticity to the book. Not so much a hobby as a passion! I read voraciously and usually have two or three books on the go at the same time. I read practically anything except sci-fi (although I like John Wyndham's books - 'Day of the Triffids', 'The Midwich Cuckoos', etc.), fantasy and romance of the Danielle Steele/Debbi McComber school of bad writing and worse plots! I read history (both fiction and non-fiction), poetry, theology, biography, mystery and detective novels (favourite writers in this genre are Ruth Rendell, P.D. James and Deborah Crombie), newspapers and news magazines - as I said, voracious reader here! My father always said that if there was nothing else to read, I'd read the labels on jam jars! Reply #10. Enjoy reading, when I can make time. I like James Patterson and used to read eveything Sidney Sheldon wrote and some Danielle Steele, every once in awhile. Reading is one of my life-long passions. I enjoy the classics, poetry, non-fiction, biography and most fiction except horror and war.
