Do you like the choice your parents made when they named you?Do you have nick name that annoys you, that stuck with you at school/work..
If you could change your name now, what would you like it to be?

A Filipino who went to the US had the birth name Casimiro Boquesa.

Years later, he had his name changed to...Cashmere Bouquet. He surely must have hated his name before!

I am happy with my name. But if I were to change it I would make it either Max Powers, Alex deLarge or Atticus Caulfield.

I was the only Vanessa throughout my schooldays - I would have prefered a more 'normal' name. I've gotten used to it now so wouldn't change it. I sign with my second name.

OMG yes! Dave is a fine name; considering my hillbilly heritage, if the Bible had blown open to a different page, I might be a Joab, Urriah, or Lord-knows-what. I consider giving children strange names a form of child abuse.

Daver, that mainly depends on if the child likes it! Also, what is considered a strange name in some places is perfectly normal in others. :)

Yes, I like my name, even though I threaten every now and then to 'change' to something easy like "Smith" because people usually pronounce or spell it wrong.

My name is Mairead L'Estrange, I was born in Dublin but I now live in Toronto. I married a man with the name Davis, I always say that I married him for his name. When I came to Canada I got so tired of having to explain my name, but now that I'm older the name Mairead is like a conversation piece, It always give everyone something to talk about. By the way Mairead is galic for Margaret.

That's my family name, Davis - I was perfectly happy with it but why did everyone want to stick an 'e' in it? I don't understand why so few people can accept names like Clark, Ann, Vivien, and seem compelled to change them to Clarke, Anne and Vivienne.

So what's wrong with Davies, Lesleye? It's Scottish, is it not? :)

More or less happy enough, named "Raymond Charles"...........ok that gives me initials of RC.

So lost count the number of times some "comedian", comes up with "Not THE Ray Charles is it"?, or "Are you"? (meaning am I Roman Catholic - RC).
No to both questions! Lol
My surname is Old French, so I get more variations in pronouncement and/or spelling than Heinz varieties.

I really like my own name. It's common, but not the most common.

I love my name Mare. It means "sea" in Latin - that one I've known for years. Also, that it's a short form of Margarethe. What I've only just found out via FunTrivia is that it comes from Greek "margarites" meaning "pearl". Yay, now I'm double as happy for having such a beautiful name :) But in spite of my name, I'm a landrat. :)

I was christened Carole Lesley.

Carole - I can take it or leave it. I would have preferred Caroline. Carol/Carole means "song of joy".

I have no idea where my mother got Carole from but I know it was her intention to call me Debra/Deborah. However, my mother and my aunt (her sister) were pregnant at the same time. My aunt had her baby first and called her Debra, beating Mum to the punch, much to her chagrin. I don't think Debbie would have suited me anyway.

When I was younger, my mother said she wanted to call me Marigold or Magnolia, Maggie for short. I think she was pulling my leg, but I was never sure.

I like Carole spelled with the "e" on the end. Carol without the "e" looks like something is missing. In the past there have been occasions when I spelled out my name over the phone and said "It's Carole with an 'e'" and then received mail addressed to Carol Withaney (which, needless to say, is not my last name).

I got my middle name, Lesley, from my godmother and my mum's brother, Leslie. It amazes me how many people don't realise it is spelled differently according to gender (Lesley is female, Leslie is male). It means "from the grey fort" and is Celtic.

Names and their meanings have always fascinated me. I am surprised at the number of people who don't know what their names mean or where they come from.

My mother told me several times that she'd intended to name me "Wolfgang," regardless of my sex. I don't know what stopped her from doing so, but I'm glad it did. (I'm female, and I was born into a very English surname, by the way.)
