Talk about something I'll never forget as long as I live. I was probably 13 or 14, which would have been '75 or '76, and I saw a television interview with John Lennon. The interviewer was asking him about the song I am the Walrus, and how the song was believed to be saying "Smoke pot, smoke pot, everybody smoke pot" towards the end of it. John said what they were actually saying was "Got one, got one, everybody's got one." Well, at this point, the interviewer asked, "Got one? Got one what?" John just casually replied "I dunno. An a**hole, I guess." I almost started rolling in the floor. I bet I can't possibly be the only person around here who remembers that! Reply #21. Feb 04 19, 8:57 PM |

My Uncle lived in Forthlin Road the same road Paul lived in when he was young and where a lot of the early Beatles songs where written. Never personally saw him though. My first Saturday job was in Woolworths in Penny Lane. I believe Cynthia Lennon also worked here at one time but before I went there. I actually do remember all the places in the song. Reply #22. Yeah, I remember those places. Remember the barber showing photographs of every head he's had the pleasure to know? Yep, very friendly place over there. All the people that come and go would always stop and say hello. Then on the corner there was a banker with a motorcar. Remember that guy? All the children would laugh at him behind his back. You know, that guy never wore a mac, even in the pouring rain. Very strange. Then there was the fireman with the hourglass. You know, the one who always had a portrait of the Queen in his pocket. That guy really liked to keep his fire engine clean. It surely was a clean machine. Yep, Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes - right there beneath the blue suburban skies! :-) No, seriously, that is the coolest, Rubytops. I wish I had cool stories like that! Reply #23.
