I'm wondering if anybody can throw some light on the wordplay of a clue in this week's "The Week" magazine crossword? I have the answer but am never completely happy if unable to fathom the wordplay. 1a A leader in Sun that's about standard mocking banter (10) Answer is PERSIFLAGE (mocking banter), and I can see FLAG (standard) and IE (that's) but simply can't see where the remaining letters are from. Just a guess, Ivor. A leader might be a rep - backwards (about) = PER, with S for sun? Reply #1903. Jan 31 18, 6:25 AM |

Sue that's far better than anything I came up with, but I've now been sent the following explanation from another site: Per - A ( £x per/a head etc) Leader in the Sun - S That is - I E (about/around) Standard - Flag I still prefer your answer! o:) Reply #1904. Jan 31 18, 10:50 AM |

I'm sure you're right with CASING for 15a Sue, and you asked for the word play. 15A Moulded object losing temperature outside (6) I believe it's Moulded object = CASTING losing T(emperature) = CASING (which is outside) Reply #1905. Jan 31 18, 3:54 PM |

Blimey! As the sports commentators would say, "Ivor's on fire!" (Always gives me mental vision of a player racing across the field with flames and smoke streaming behind.) 8^) Reply #1909. Jan 31 18, 6:22 PM |
