Moonraker: I reckon you're spot on Sue. I've looked into my "Bradford's Crossword Solvers Dictionary" and it gives SER as an allowable contraction for the word 'series', so I think it should also be acceptable for the word 'serial'. In the words of Stephanie Plum's Granma, "I gotta get me one of those!" I hope it's still in print / available online. Reply #1961. Feb 05 18, 8:54 PM |

windrush: Just ordered a copy from the Book Suppos.. er, Depository. Sue, you'll find it really helpful when scratching around for possible synonyms etc. In my opinion it's better for crosswords than Roget's Thesaurus. Reply #1963. Feb 06 18, 5:37 AM |

Could it be REDUCE? That means to concentrate, not sure about the RE unless a note could be a reference. Have looked at INDUCE, ADDUCE, SEDUCE. Can you do anything with any of those, Ivor? Reply #1968. Feb 06 18, 5:09 PM |

11A Leading showed off in secret, by all accounts (10) I think this is SUPPOSEDLY, though I don't have all the wordplay. In secret = S...LY. Showed off, POSED + UP (leading?) Reply #1972. Feb 06 18, 5:25 PM |

Reduce is correct. "Re" is the second note (doh re mi) and duce you already had . Reduce is a cooking term for concentrating a sauce, for example. Reply #1977. Feb 07 18, 12:43 AM |
