Subject: Into a New Verse

So I am admitted in MBBS course in SN medical college, Agra. I got admission on 16th August 2018.

Now a new phase of me is starting, where I have to live far away from my family, I have to manage everything on my own.

In this thread I will be sharing my experiences, my new and renovated thoughts and all about everyday going.

Regards
Elai

Your limited supply of cadavers certainly amplifies any problems that may arise. In most US medical schools, there are four students per cadaver, so in a class of 150, that would be about 37 cadavers, rather than 3. Gross anatomy classes in the US have periodic "lab practicals", which are tests where students have to identify various structures in cadavers that the instructors have labeled. With only 3 cadavers, lab practicals would be difficult to set up.

As far as I have been able to collect my knowledge...in the practicals of exams most if the time we get bones to identify and I feel it to be the easiest task. And then a particular structure perhaps you get cut part of leg..some muscle to identify. And yes the resource is limited!

Even the top 10 colleges of our country provides 1 cadaver per 30 students!

Well, I am feeling honoured that the administration has transferred the leadership of The Dog People to me due to my works with the team for past two months. Any suggestions how to be a good leader?

What are "The Dog People"? What are to lead them in? Elai, having a weak memory is not a plus factor of you are studying to be a doctor. You're going to have to find a way to remember more. I wish I could tell you how but I don't know any ways that might help you in improving your memory.

I realized it a bit later after having a choice two years back what should I do! But still the other factors in me covers up the weak memory part. But still I have to pay at some places.

Dilemma: I want to buy a compound microscope that costs Rupees 8500. Currently I have no money and I need to save it as fast as possible and I have no extra money to save. I am confused how to buy it.

Do you have blood banks there? College students here sell their blood to earn extra cash.

That's £89 or $116 US. How much do you get for a pint of blood?!?
I can't believe this equipment isn't provided for you, do they want only rich people to learn? It's very sad.

Nope!

I get about Rupees 8000 monthly. Out of which 3000 costs to my room rent and 3750 costs food. Then I am left with rupees 1250. Out of which Rs 100 is spent monthly in pressing of clothes and room cleaning by maid (4 days in complete month). Then I am left with 1150. These are spent in few requirement by college, stationary, and on Saturday and Sunday I spend Rs 50 extra on food in evening as I get struck with hunger on Sunday evening die to time change. So by the end of month no money is left with me. Huh....

College provides nothing! Whether I am trying to please my father to gift me a microscope but since this birthday he has already bought a stethoscope in advance, I am finding it difficult to get it from him! For having a microscope I would need to wait ...but I can't as I want to learn, learn better on my own.

So college provides us nothing. On Monday we were taught to measure BP (all theory part). Today was our practical and turn to measure BP. See the conditions, there was a sphygmomanometer per 7 students. We have to take about 10 reading in different states in 45 minutes. We all were doing it for first and last time in the college. 7 students have to learn measuring BP in 45 minutes and too when they were doing for first time. Honestly speaking, I was just able to take pulse and literally heard no sounds while measuring BP by auscaltation meathod. And finally time over and we can't learn.

And the teachers want is to get good marks and being perfect in everything. Quite sarcastic!

Are you allowed into the classrooms to use any of the equipment on your own time? Some things like taking blood pressure, maybe you could practice with a friend after class? There must be somebody who is as eager to learn as yourself.

Nope we are not allowed. Infact we can't even stay for a single minute after class to practice with friends due to ragging problems. Looks like I forgot to tell about ragging scenario in my college. I will describe about ragging in detail tomorrow! :)

So today my second wisdom tooth has begun to erupt and that too before I complete 18! My first wisdom tooth erupted when I was about 16 and a half years old.
