8-10 yrs.. Newfs have a short life span because they have a lot of medical conditions. Because Newfs are a big breed they have a greater chance of Gastric Torsion which is very deadly to big breeds. Hip and Elbow Dysplasia are also very common in Newfs.
1700's. This breed ultimately is traced back to the Tibetan Mastiff but no actual record exists.
f. The Newf has a double coat. The undercoat is soft and dense while the outer is long and straight.

Landseer Newfoundland. On the Landseer normally the head, saddle, rump and hair extending onto the tail is white with the rest of the coat being black. The Landseer Newf is named after a painting known as "The Distinguished Member of the Humane Society" by Sir Edwin Landseer.
