Tumbleweeds
Grimy Gulch. Grimy Gulch has been referred to as "The Arm Pit of the West" by the local citizens.
Knuckles. Knuckles isn't too bright, although he's managed to avoid falling into Hildegard Hamhocker's marriage trap. (Yes--she'd tried to get him a few times, too!)
Who is the woman who is always trying to get Tumbleweeds to marry her? | Tumbleweeds
|
Hildegard Hamhocker. She's tried everything that's suggested in her "Husband Hunters Handbook" to nail the poor guy--but nothing ever works. Once in a great while, she might try for another guy, but she always comes back to Tumbleweeds. She'll never give up!
Soppy Sopwell. He's usually found at his run-down shack, or laying face down on the dusty streets!
Horatio Curmudgeon Frump. He's very pompous and arrogant. His philosophy is "everyone is guilty until proven otherwise!"
Ham & Beans. Ham isn't too bright, either. He's always carrying the mules around, much to Beans' disgust. Beans' balloons usally consist of "!@#$%^&*" when he's talking to Ham! (After all, it is a family strip!)
Claude Clay. Claude's motto is "You Plug 'Em-I Plant 'Em". Another of Claude's mottos is "Ashes to ashes; dust to dust, son-get where you're going by internal combustion!" when he pushes cremations!
Wart Wimble. Wart often has to dig and refill the same empty grave, as there's not a lot of business in Grimy Gulch.
Grover Galley. According to Percy, the newsboy, "Grover was once beaned with a composing stick by an irate pressman, thereby sorta scattering his type". Grover's always looking for a big news story, but usually ends up with something like "All the answers to tomorrow's crossword puzzle today!"
Col. G. Armageddon Fluster. Haughty Colonel Fluster rules the 6 7/8th Cavalry. He can't tell left from right--once on patrol he ordered "Column Left!" and when he looked back they had all disappeared since he turned to the right. As he told Tumbleweeds, raising his left hand--"I'd give my right arm to find those deserters!"
Snakeye McFoul. Snakeye is notorious for robbing the bank and locking the Sheriff in the jail. He once took over Grimy Gulch when the Sheriff was out of town, renaming the town "Snakeyeville" and turning the jail into a pool hall.
Ace DeSilk. Ace always wins by cheating. He once donated his coat to the Salvation Army, who sent him a thank you letter reading; "It looked like new when we had it cleaned an de-royal flushed!"
Epic. Tumbleweeds acquired Epic from the army. Epic is a tobacco-chewing nag, that was thrown out of the Army for spitting on the Top sarge. Tumbleweeds did have a horse named "Blossom", who always slept, even at a full gallop. She ran away one day, and Tumbleweeds bought Epic.
The Poohawks. The Chief of the Poohawks doesn't seem to get the respect he feels he deserves from his fellow Poohawks. (They even forgot to give him a gift for "Chief Appreciation Day"!)
Little Pigeon. The Chief is very protective of her. He refuses to let her go out with Limpid Lizard without a chaperone. No other brave is brave enough to try to take her out, except once in a while, Losta Luck will try. She sometimes goes out with Bucolic Buffalo too, but these times are rare.
Which Indian brave is always trying to marry the Chief's daughter? | Tumbleweeds
|
Limpid Lizard. He once showed Little Pigeon his pet turtle "Elmer Jane". (He called the turtle that "'cuz it might be a girl!") He told Little Pigeon, "Elmer Jane needs a mother." "You don't propose marriage by saying you need a mother for your pet turtle!" Little Pigeon said angrily. "If you want a mother for your turtle, maybe you should marry a turtle!" "Is that so? Well it just so happens that I don't believe in mixed marriages, fellah!" Limpid Lizard answered.
Who is the Indian that always scribbled notes before he could talk? | Tumbleweeds
|
Lotsa Luck. Lotsa Luck never talked until the later strips. He has the only chauffeur-driven horse in the tribe. He's another one who's very arrogant. He owns an escargot ranch and bathes in Perrier water. He tried to become the "Philanthropic Ranger" who went around saving fair damsels, stopping evil-doers, and, after his daring exploits, would hang around basking in glory, and, should the need arise, boogie till dawn, but he couldn't find a faithful W.A.S.P. companion!
What is the annual event that the Indians look forward to? | Tumbleweeds
|
Sneaky Week. During "Sneaky Week", the Poohawks practice skulking. Usually they can only sneak up on each other, but sometimes they get lucky when Tumbleweeds goes out of town for solitude.
Pemmican Burgers. They are only fifteen cents.
Tom K. Ryan. Johnny Hart draws "B.C." and "The Wizard of ID"; Bill Amend draws "Foxtrot", and Jerry Bittle, before his unfortunate death on April 7, 2003, drew "Geech" and "Shirley & Son".
