Jacky Daydream
17th December 1945. You see this by the first chapter, in a cloud, underneath a bird carrying a little baby. She says she was more than a fortnight late for her own birth, and that was so unlike her - she's always very speedy and can't stand being late for anything.
Biddy. When Jacqueline Wilson's parents met, her mum, Biddy, was twenty-one, and her dad, Harry, was twenty-three. They went to the cinema and saw "Now, Voyager" on their first proper date.

Enid Blyton. Jacqueline Wilson said that she didn't care for the Blyton mystery stories - she found the "Secret Sevens" and "Famous Fives" boring. She wrote that, "None of the children seemed to have much personality apart from George. I always like to read about fierce tomboy girls, though I was mostly a meek girly-girl myself."

Ann, Jacky and Michael. Ann was described as "a beautiful child with big brown eyes and long curly hair". She went to ballet classes and was very confident. "She was the youngest of four and had that glossy confidence that comes when you're the family favourite." Michael was described as "a cheery boy with slicked-down hair, rosy cheeks and a big smile". He was Jacky's first boyfriend.
Mandy. Mandy Miller played a little deaf girl in the film "Mandy". She was a sad, small little girl with big soulful eyes and dark wispy plaits. Jacky had three Mandys in her head - the little deaf girl, the child actress, and her own imaginary friend.
David was Jacky's boyfriend, but she secretly liked Alan, but he had a girlfriend. She was Jacky's friend, what was her name? | "Jacky Daydream"!

Christine. Secretly, Jacky preferred Alan to David, and Christine preferred David to Alan. They decided to swap boyfriends, and the boys agreed. They were all in a group - Jacky, Christine, Alan, Robert, Eileen, David and Julian. There's a picture of them before chapter 32.
Just before another chapter, there is a question and an answer. One of them was: "One of the characters in my books wears real Victorian clothes - but she doesn't have a beautiful purple crinoline. She has to wear uniform, stitched by herself. Who is it?" What part of Jacky's childhood was this based on? | "Jacky Daydream"!

When she found a big trunk-full of beautiful clothes and they all dressed up. There were lots of gorgeous clothes and materials in there. Jacky favoured the purple crinoline, which she offered to Eileen, but she chose clothes that made her look like an Indian princess. Robert was a pirate, Alan was a sailor, David was a policeman and Julian was a large lollopy dog. When she visited the school as an adult, they were still there.

Biddy and Harry. Biddy and Harry never were a very happy couple.
Hilda Ellen. Hilda Ellen had a very hard life, and Jacqueline dedicated "The Suitcase Kid" to her.
Mary Jane. Mary Jane was a present from Jacqueline's uncle Roy.
A dog. Vip was a Pekingese dog, and Jacqueline adored him.
In Essex. Jacqueline went to the Waverley Hall in Clacton, Essex.
Six years old. Jacqueline went to live in Cumberland House when she was six. It had two rooms, so she had her own one.
Ann and Michael. Ann, Michael and Jacqueline were best friends in the infants.
To have her tonsils and her adenoids removed. Jacqueline was booked in at Kingston Hospital for a week so she cold have her tonsils and adenoids out.
Rosalind. Jacqueline named her after the girl in "Adventures with Rosalind", her favourite book at the time.
