Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When was Jacqueline Wilson born?

Answer: 17th December 1945

You see this by the first chapter, in a cloud, underneath a bird carrying a little baby. She says she was more than a fortnight late for her own birth, and that was so unlike her - she's always very speedy and can't stand being late for anything.
2. What was her mother's name?

Answer: Biddy

When Jacqueline Wilson's parents met, her mum, Biddy, was twenty-one, and her dad, Harry, was twenty-three. They went to the cinema and saw "Now, Voyager" on their first proper date.
3. The names "Ga" and "Gongon" were given to Jacqueline's aunt and uncle. True or false?

Answer: False

They were the "silly" names she called her grandparents before she could talk clearly and they stuck. She loved them, and it was also very peaceful living with them. One of Jacqueline's books was dedicated to Ga, and this book was "The Suitcase Kid". "In memory of Hilda Ellen Smeed".
4. Jacqueline, her mother, and her grandmother like the same things, but one thing especially. What is it?

Answer: Dolls

Jacqueline had lots of dolls, and wrote about a lot of dolls in Lizzie Zipmouth, because she and Great Gran loved them too.
5. What was Jacqueline's father, Harry's, favourite hobby?

Answer: Horse racing

Jacky writes that Harry would shout excitedly if his horse looked as if it had a chance, jiggling up and down as if he was riding the horse himself.
6. Jacky wrote that one author 'got her reading'. Which writer was this?

Answer: Enid Blyton

Jacqueline Wilson said that she didn't care for the Blyton mystery stories - she found the "Secret Sevens" and "Famous Fives" boring. She wrote that, "None of the children seemed to have much personality apart from George. I always like to read about fierce tomboy girls, though I was mostly a meek girly-girl myself."
7. Who was drawn on the front of chapter number thirteen? (UK 2007 edition)

Answer: Ann, Jacky and Michael

Ann was described as "a beautiful child with big brown eyes and long curly hair". She went to ballet classes and was very confident. "She was the youngest of four and had that glossy confidence that comes when you're the family favourite." Michael was described as "a cheery boy with slicked-down hair, rosy cheeks and a big smile". He was Jacky's first boyfriend.
8. Who was Jacky's favourite child actress?

Answer: Mandy

Mandy Miller played a little deaf girl in the film "Mandy". She was a sad, small little girl with big soulful eyes and dark wispy plaits. Jacky had three Mandys in her head - the little deaf girl, the child actress, and her own imaginary friend.
9. David was Jacky's boyfriend, but she secretly liked Alan, but he had a girlfriend. She was Jacky's friend, what was her name?

Answer: Christine

Secretly, Jacky preferred Alan to David, and Christine preferred David to Alan. They decided to swap boyfriends, and the boys agreed. They were all in a group - Jacky, Christine, Alan, Robert, Eileen, David and Julian. There's a picture of them before chapter 32.
10. Just before another chapter, there is a question and an answer. One of them was: "One of the characters in my books wears real Victorian clothes - but she doesn't have a beautiful purple crinoline. She has to wear uniform, stitched by herself. Who is it?" What part of Jacky's childhood was this based on?

Answer: When she found a big trunk-full of beautiful clothes and they all dressed up

There were lots of gorgeous clothes and materials in there. Jacky favoured the purple crinoline, which she offered to Eileen, but she chose clothes that made her look like an Indian princess. Robert was a pirate, Alan was a sailor, David was a policeman and Julian was a large lollopy dog. When she visited the school as an adult, they were still there.
