      he defeated Maugrim (Fenris ULF) in single combat. When the Narnia books were written in the 1950s by the English Professor C.S. Lewis, and the Chief of the Witch's secret police was called Maugrim. When the books travelled the Atlantic to the USA in the late 1970s, his name was changed to Fenris ULF; I do not know why. Maugrim is still called Maugrim in the UK and is called such in the excellent television adaptation of this book.
