 The Cat Mummy
Nick Sharratt. Nick Sharrat illustrated most of Jacqueline Wilson's books.
Her best friend, Sophie. Sophie had four kittens and her mum said that they couldn't keep four kittens so she offered one to Verity.
Miss Smith. Miss Smith is Verity's favourite teacher and throughout the book none of the other names are mentioned.
She made her into a cat mummy. She was so choked up she could barely make a sound so she couldn't have told her grandmother. She didn't want Mabel to be buried and she couldn't leave it as it would smell so she made her into a cat mummy. She knew how to as she was learning about the ancient Egyptians. She also didn't tell anybody about it.
In her wardrobe. The day before when Verity shouted at Mabel, she disappeared and Verity couldn't find her. Verity was going to take a nap when she came home from school. Even though it was a hot day, she felt cold and shivery. She went to get her winter dressing gown from her wardrobe and that is where she found Mabel, dead.
Because Mabel got sick and Verity stepped in the cat's sick. Verity was wearing open-toed sandals which made it a lot worse and that is why she shouted at Mabel.
Freesias. Verity's grandmother always arranges freesias in a little vase and puts them on Verity's mum's grave.
Behind Verity. Moyra sits behind Verity and she always wraps her arm somewhere on Verity's body pretending that she is Crusher, her boa constrictor snake.
Sophie. Her best friend is Sophie, her second best friend is Laura, Aaron is her sort-of boyfriend and Moyra is her worst enemy.
Licky. His full name is Licquorice Allsorts but he gets called Licky for short.
Aaron. He has a dog, Licky, and they often go to the park after school with their Grans. Licky likes ice-cream and often has one!
Her Dad and Gran. Verity's mother died, but they do visit her grave. She also lives with Mabel, who is a big stripy cat.
2001. "The Cat Mummy" is published by Corgi Children's books. The book is illustrated by Nick Sharratt.

A fairy costume. Mrs Smith is Verity's favourite teacher and she is very supportive and is clearly always ready to help her students out.
Her swimming bag. She tries to preserve Mabel by making her into a Cat Mummy. She sprinkles the poor dead cat with lavender bath crystals, and tries to bandage Mabel up.
Moyra. She hugs Verity round the waist nastily, pretending to be Crusher, her pet snake. They don't like each other at all!
A Minnie Mouse. She says this when she is searching for Mabel, and when she is trying to get to sleep.
The Egyptians. She says Mrs Smith looks like an Egyptian, because she has big eyes and straight, black hair.
Truth. Verity mentions this in the book. She lives with her Gran and her Dad because her Mum died.
