The third book in the series is "Cugel's Saga", continuing Cugel's duel with the Laughing Magician. By his usual nefarious tricks, Cugel comes into possession of a scale from an Overworld Being, Sadlark, who descended to earth and sprawled on his face in the mud, dispersing his essence, and his protective scales, into the muck. Pectoral Sky-break Spatterlight. This scale has the most remarkable powers, literally "sucking up" anything it contacts when dry. Half a dozen of Cugel's foes are dealt with in this way.
He's been taken over by Firx's vat-companion. Cugel finally rids himself of Firx and Iucounu of Firx's companion. He puts Iucounu in a bottle and subjects him to many indignities. Iucounu finally gets free and to punish him; Cugel decides to banish him to the far north, poetic justice, right? Wrong! Cugel's lack of wizard skills betrays him and he is flown north by a demon, for the second time!

Silver. The pilgrim numbers are whittled down by bandits, scorpions, poisoned wells, and insanity until only Cugel is left to complete his quest.
Provost of Barlig township. After Cugel cheats him out of a night's accommodation at an inn, Lodermulch is given a magic salve to make his sword unbreakable. He later vanishes from the raft without trace (lots of Cugel's acquaintances come to sticky ends!)
Eating TOTALITY. After mistaking TOTALITY for seafood, and cooking and eating same, Cugel was sent by Pharesm one million years into the past to recover it, where he had more outlandish adventures. The "virgins" bit came later in Cugel's highly checkered career.

Rlaru. Adolph Gondar agreed on a cultural exchange program, and took the Ninth Company of Rlaru on tour of Earth; however after one performance the entire company vanished without trace. Dame Isabel Grayce was set on honouring the exchange, and despite it not being sanctioned by the Opera League, went ahead anyway with her own money, money indeed that would not be inherited by Roger Wool. Dame Isabel had hired the spaceship Phoebus from Admiral Rathelaw, and along with Bernard Bickel and an entire Opera company, conducted by Sir Henry Rixon, they set forth on a voyage that turned out to be more eventful than expected.
Kyril is the world of the Druids in "Son of Tree". Koryphon is the setting for "The Gray Prince". Moudervelt is from "The Book of Dreams".

The Black Cliff Inn. Going with Janika to interview a Gomez at the Ubaikh depot, by way of Kanitze Castle and the Kykh-Kych Swamp, Hetzel had to spend the night at this Inn. An unexpected turn of events meant that his next port of call was The Steppe of Long Bones.
Paddy Blackthorn. The five bands of gold belonged to the five Sons of Langtry. Inside each was a clue, which might lead Paddy to discover the secrets of the space-drive. Sklar Hast is from "Blue World", Beran Panasper from "The Languages of Pao", and Howard Fair is in a short story called "Green Magic".

Wysrod. Jubal was given the post of Junior Assistant Inspector at D3, which checks Inn standards; for this he was given seventeen Toldecks a week. Jubal visted Kyash and Erdstone Pool later in the book. Fader's Waft is the name of a mountain in "Rhialto the Marvellous".

Glicca. Myron Tany joined as supercargo, after his great Aunt had stranded him there. Other members of the crew were Fay Schwatzendale (Engineer) and Isel Wingo (Chief Steward). Explorator IV was the spaceship that was blown up in "Planet of Adventure" leaving Adam Reith stranded on Tschai. The Madelle Azenour took Glawen Clattac to Tanjaree in "Ecce and Old Earth". The SS Andrei Simic took Aile Farr from Jhespiano to Earth in "The Houses of Iszm".

Macbeth. Apollon Zamp took the title roll, Damsel Blanche-Aster played Lady Macbeth and Throdorus Gassoon played King Duncan. The other three were all played by Zamp aboard his showboat Miraldra's Enchantment; The Magic Box of Ki-chi-ri at Lanteen and the other two at Port Whent.

Billy Windle. Kirth Gersen decides to do a mission for the IPCC on the planet Carina LO-461 IV (or Bad World or Bissom's End). Windle kills Mr. Hoskins, who Gersen was trying to kidnap. The other three, Gersen released from Interchange later in the book.
Killed by some Bornghaleze while on a raid. Kerbol had a pointed head and a face like a frog and he was one of Roy Barch's most loyal followers. Kerbol had been on the Klau world of Magarak for 14 years, 12 of them as a slave, working with explosives in a quarry. He found it too hot, so escaped and joined Clet's group. Kerbol had been out with Barch and Tick procuring items for Porridge, such as tools and welding tape, when he was killed. This book has also been published under the titles of "Planet of the Damned" and "Gold and Iron".

Hussade. Glinnes needed to raise 12000 ozols to buy back Ambal Isle from Lute Casagave. To raise the money Glinnes signed on with a hussade team called the Fleharish Gorgons - or that was the plan anyway. Herlo-thrumbo is a device used by the Ska to train swordsman in "Lyonesse", Herlothrumbo is also a game played by Schwatzendale in "Ports of Call". Harbite, also known as the baiting of a harikap, involving a semi-intelligent biped and pitchforks, was mentioned in "The Star King". You need to be pretty sharp to have spotted roverball in "Night Lamp" where Hanafer captains the Langolen School team.

Using 12 Skeletons and a piece of rope. There were twelve feet between the floor and the bottom of the five foot wide shaft, which rose another 60 or 70 feet to the surface. Aillas made a base of 4 pelvises, followed by 4 femurs, then four more pelvises, which were braced with ribs, to this he added 4 femurs and so on until he had a 10 foot ladder. He used the rope as guys to hold it in place.
