That their parents had died in a fire. Yes, Mr. Poe gave the children the depressing news that they lost their home and parents to a fire - what a tragedy this was. They were also told that they would be living with Count Olaf.
A silhoutte picture of their mom and dad. They also found a spy glass in the rubble. They did take the picture of the man and woman and used it while at Count Olaf's home.
From snake venom. Count Olaf was guilty of killing Uncle Monty, we figured this out all by ourselves. Of course, Klaus and Violet tried to warn Uncle Monty that the Count was up to no good.
Peru. Unfortunately, the story would have been happy, had Uncle Monty taken them to Peru. Then again, the story would have finished here, or would it?
It crumbled to pieces. The fortunate part of the home crumbling, was that no one was hurt in the crash. The three children were safe and Aunt Josephine was hiding from the Count.
In a code in a letter. Aunt Josephine knew grammar very well and did not make mistakes, so the children knew there had to be something more to the letter.
Monkey. Sunny knew what she was saying, and that was the important thing. She wasn't too fond of Count Olaf either.
Yes. The children found a spy glass in the rubble of their home. They saw that both Uncle Monty and Aunt Josephine had spy glasses also. What was the meaning of this? Will there be more movies to follow? How much more will the children have to go through?
Yes. Yes, the Justice performed the ceremony and the paperwork was signed. Luckily Klaus had time to burn... or should I say, the paper was destroyed by fire.

Imposter. Jim Carrey had some unique costume changes in this movie. I thought he was very realistic in each one. I've read the books in this series and was a little troubled that the movie was not quite as cute as the books, but then again, they never are.
I wish I could say that you enjoyed this quiz, but unfortunately, I can't. It's a sad tale, but someone has to be the teller of the sad series.
Massachusetts. We learn this when the Baudelaires receive the letter from their parents that was lost in the mail while they were traveling in Europe.
Klaus. Unlike the book, Klaus escapes from "The Marvelous Marriage" (the play Count Olaf has created to marry Violet and inherit the Baudelaire fortune) to rescue Sunny, who was locked up in the tower to bribe Violet to marry him.
Klaus. Count Olaf proves that he is a true villian when Klaus gets slapped just because the children made the wrong dinner. They had no idea he wanted roast beef!
Aunt Josephine. Aunt Josephine kept secrets in Ike's room, which the children discovered when they were visiting Aunt Josephine's grammatical library for the first time.
11:15. Count Olaf wanted the fortune so bad that he was going to have the childen hit by a train. However Mr. Poe later explains that if anything were to happen to the children Count Olaf would not recieve a penny of the fortune.
Sunny. Count Olaf calls Sunny a primate all through the movie. Since she is still an infant, he can't understand her way of speaking.
Strawberry Surpreeze. While they were driving home from their court ordeal Count Olaf promised the children a treat from the general store. He took a very long time looking for sodas meanwhile the children were locked in the car and they found a schedule with 11:15 circled on it. Luckily Violet switched train tracks before the train came too close to the chilren. Count Olaf was going to have the children run over!
Spittoon, like a vase. They also used a screen from a window for a pasta strainer when Count Olaf told them he needed dinner in a half-hour and the children found some noodles in a drawer. That's all they could find so they made him Puttanesca but he wanted roast beef, even though he never informed the children of this.
Blue. Like every other detail of this movie, the taxi was blue for a change. This movie was very colorful, so maybe that's why they decided to use a blue taxi.
fire. Mr. and Mrs. Baudelaire died as a result of a fire started by Count Olaf. Their deaths left their children as orphans and were the first in a series of unfortunate events...
Violet. Fourteen-year-old Violet Baudelaire is an inventor. Her habit is to tie her hair back with a ribbon whenever she is about to invent. She rescues her siblings and herself, when their lives are threatened, with her quick thinking. Emily Browning portrays Violet in the film.
Klaus. Klaus Baudelaire is twelve years of age and an avid reader. His ability to utilize information gathered from books helps the Baudelaires out of many tight spots. In the film, he is played by Liam Aiken.
Sunny. Sunny is an infant who communicates with her siblings through baby talk.
She also has a remarkable biting ability that always seems to come in handy. She chews everything from tabletops to Scrabble tiles. Twins Shelby and Kara Hoffman depict her in the movie.
Count Olaf. Count Olaf is the Baudelaires' closest relative, geographically speaking only. He lives a mere thirty-seven blocks from the Baudelaire mansion. He is either the Baudelaires' fourth cousin, three times removed, or their third cousin, four times removed. The Baudelaire children are left in his care. When they discover what an evil person Count Olaf is, they are sent to to their Uncle Monty, and then to their Aunt Josephine. Justice Strauss is Count Olaf's neighbor who lives across the block from him. Count Olaf is played by Jim Carrey.
Actor. He is a horrible and egotistic actor who often bores his acting troupe to sleep with his long improvisations. His poor disguises as Stefano and Captain Sham are recognized instantly by the Baudelaire children.
11:15. Count Olaf wants to eliminate the orphans so he can enjoy their enormous fortune. Fortunately, they figure it out in time, and alter the train's path before it can run into their car.
snake. Uncle Monty has a large room in his house known as the "reptile room", where he keeps all his snakes, both large and small. His most prized discovery is the incredibly dangerous viper, which is actually harmless. Uncle Monty is depicted by Billy Connolly.
Peru. Uncle Monty is going there with the orphans, to save them from the vicious Count Olaf. Unluckily for the orphans, Count Olaf kills him before his plan can be carried out.
45 minutes. He did not the wait the entire 60 minutes that his wife, Aunt Josephine, instructed him to, so leeches detected the scent of food in his stomach and killed him. Later on, Aunt Josephine suffered the same fate.
banana. When Aunt Josephine and the Baudelaire children are in the middle of the lake, they are relieved that the leeches will not attack them, because they think that none of them have eaten in a long time. However, they discover that Aunt Josephine actually ate a banana, so the leeches come for them.
The chandelier will fall if the light is turned on.. Aunt Josephine used to be very daring and even tamed lions, but when her beloved husband Ike was killed by leeches, she grew immensely paranoid. Of course, all the things that Aunt Josephine fears do occur, to varying degrees. She also has an irrational fear of realtors and is obsessed with grammar. Ironically, her house is built on stilts precariously over Lake Lachrymose. Meryl Streep portrays Aunt Josephine.
