Wall Of Voodoo (Los Lobos, Flesh For Lulu, Modern English). "Mexican Radio" was a one-hit wonder for Wall of Voodoo. It was released in 1983. Wall of Voodoo was formed in 1977 and broke up in 1989.

Rio. Okay, that was pretty easy. Duran Duran also recorded the theme song to the James Bond movie "A View to a Kill".
LL Cool J. LL Cool J has also acted. He was in the movie "Toys" with Robin Williams.
The Rolling Stones. The Sex Pistols recorded (and wrote) the original song. Motley Cure recorded it for "Stairway to Heaven, Highway to Hell" and it is the third track on Megadeth's "So Far, So Good... So What?" album. I think Sir Mick Jagger has more reverence for the throne.
Ohio. The song is about the tragedy at Kent State University, where the National Guard tried to stop an anti-war demonstration in 1970, during the Vietnam conflict. Four students were killed.
Gladys Knight and the Pips. In October 1973, Gladys Knight and The Pips took "Midnight Train to Georgia" to number one on the Billboard charts. The songwriter, Jim Weatherly, wrote it as "Midnight Plane to Houston". The song title was changed when it was recorded by Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney Houston.

Alabama. Robert Hunter wrote the lyrics and the late Jerry Garcia wrote the music. The first performance of "Alabama Getaway" was on November 4, 1979, at the Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Bob Dylan covers this song.
Tennessee. Arrested Development was formed in 1988 in Atlanta, Georgia. The album that "Tennessee" was on was named after the amount of time it took the group to get a record contract; "3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of...".
California Uber Alles. "California Uber Alles" is a nod to "Deutschland Uber Alles", the German national anthem from World War II. There were two versions of this song recorded- one was about Ronald Reagan and one was about Jerry Brown.
Billy Joel. "New York State of Mind" was on Billy Joel's "Turnstiles" album, released in 1976. This album also has the songs "Miami 2017" and "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" on it, to stay with our quiz theme!
Montana. In "Montana", Zappa sings about moving to Montana to raise crops of dental floss.
