In my personal opinion "The Day Before You Came" is one of ABBA's most under-rated songs. It has been interpreted as a woman reciting all the boring things she does in a day before she meets her love and it's been interpreted as a woman reciting all the things she does before she meets her death. Regardless of your interpretation, it is a haunting, beautiful song. It was released in 1982 as the first new song from the compilation album "The Singles: The First Ten Years" and did not chart at all in the U.S. It reached number thirty-two in the U.K. as ABBA's success was on the decline at the time. The song has been covered a number of times including by new wave band Blancmange who released it in the U.K. in 1984 and saw it reach number twenty-two on the charts there.

"Dancing on my Own" was written by a Swedish pop star named Robyn. Her version was a big hit in Europe, charting in many European countries, but it's not well-known in the United States. Calum Scott did a cover of the song in 2015 and his version became a bigger hit worldwide, charting at number 93 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and charting in at least ten different countries. The two versions of the song are very different. One could say that musically, Robyn's version focuses on the "Dancing" part, while Calum Scott's slower version of the song seems to emphasize the "On my own" part.

On its second re-entry in 1956 it peaked at number five, on its third re-entry later in 1956 it peaked at number 24. On its fourth re-entry in 1957 it peaked at number 25, on its fifth re-entry later in 1957 it peaked at number 22. On re-issue in 1968 it peaked at number 20 and on its second re-issue in 1974 it peaked at number 12. Between 1955 and 1974 "(We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley And His Comets spent a total of 51 weeks on the UK Singles Chart.

Swift had won the award for the video for 'You Belong With Me', which featured her playing both the heroine of the song and an evil cheerleader. During Swift's acceptance speech, West grabbed the microphone off her and said, "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!" Beyoncé was later awarded Video of the Year for 'Single Ladies', and called Swift back onstage to finish her speech. Bobby McFerrin is an American jazz vocalist who has worked both solo and in collaborations. "Don't Worry, Be Happy" is entirely a cappella, featuring numerous overdubbed vocal takes to accompany the central melody. The song became a huge charting hit for McFerrin and won him Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1989. The song became deeply ingrained in popular culture and has featured in numerous films. George H. W. Bush even used the song for his presidential campaign without McFerrin's consent, causing McFerrin (a Democrat supporter) to momentarily retire the song from his setlists in protest. After the success of "Don't Worry, Be Happy", Bobby McFerrin began exploring other career possibilities, including composing for film studios like Pixar and collaborating with orchestras. "Born to Run" (1975) was seen as Bruce Springsteen's final fling at stardom. To that point he'd released two albums that were commercial failures despite garnering strong critical acclaim. This single, filled with gothic grandeur amidst a rock and roll fairy tale tinged with a romantic realism, would be the icebreaker that tore down the walls to mainstream acceptance for Bruce. The "Wall of Sound" was a formula employed by Phil Spector that would imbue the songs he produced with a "dense orchestral aesthetic" that sounded bigger on radio. "I Can't Get Started" (also called "I Can't Get Started With You"), was introduced by Bob Hope, in 1936. With lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and music by Vernon Duke, Hal Kemp and his orchestra took it to 14th on the charts. Happily, trumpeter Bunny Berigan made it his theme song in 1937, changing the mood from downtrodden to joyous. Bunny died in 1942, but his recording made the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1975. Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as Bing Crosby, Charlie Parker and Rod Stewart, just to name a few, based recordings on this original. The song also appears in the movie "Chinatown".

"Lost John" which reached number 58 in 1956 and "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavour (On The Bedpost Over Night)" which reached number five in 1961. He had 17 UK top ten hits between 1956 and 1962, including three number one hits.

Frankie Vaughan reached number two on the UK chart with the song in 1956 and Glen Mason reached number 24 on the UK chart with the song also in 1956. Shakin' Stevens took it all the way to number one on the UK chart for four weeks in 1981. None of these three versions reached the US chart.

"This is Not a Love Song", released in 1983 as a single, became the band's most popular song hitting a peak of number fifteen on the UK Singles Charts. What turned out to be a hit was later rerecorded for their fourth album release, "This is What You Want... This is What You Get" which only reached number fifty-six in the UK and failed to chart in the US. This was one of the band's two original albums (of seven) to not chart in North America and definitely their lowest charting in Europe. Sinatra was nominated for Best Original Song at five different Oscars ceremonies (winning three times: 1954, 1957, and 1959 respectively). Sinatra would also win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar (and Golden Globe) for "From Here to Eternity" in 1953 and host the ceremonies on two different occasions. "High Hopes" was nominated for Record of the Year at the second Grammy Awards (in 1959) and appeared on the album "All the Way" along with "Witchcraft". The song was later covered by Doris Day in 1964 on a children's album. This Sinatra classic was added to our list by Bucknallbabe.

In 1974, Freddy Fender released his first album, "Before the Next Teardrop Falls". His first single, of the same name, hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country charts in the US shortly before "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" also became a number one single in the same year. The re-release came as a surprise. Fender had previously performed the song before he was charged with marijuana possession, but his name dwindled in the music industry as a result of his subsequent incarceration. This Fender classic was shuffled into our setlist by Jakeroo.

Maybe his new version of the '50s hit "Singing The Blues" with his old backing group The Shadows, will do it. He has had 14 UK number ones altogether. His biggest hit in the US was "Devil Woman in 1976 which got to number six and earned him a gold disc.
