One Hit Wonders - 1970s
Shocking Blue. This Dutch group consisted of Mariska Veres, Robbie van Leeuwen, Klassie van der Wal and Cor van Beek.
Billy Swan. Billy Swan produced Tony Joe White's hit 'Polk Salad Annie' in 1969.
David Soul. David Soul played Ken Hutchinson on ABC's 'Starsky and Hutch'. He appeared as 'The Covered Man' on 'The Merv Griffin Show'.
Minnie Riperton . Minnie Riperton died of cancer July 12th, 1979.
Wild Cherry. Wild Cherry got their name from a box of cough drops.
Van McCoy. Van McCoy died of a heart attack at age 39 on 7-6-79.
Debby Boone . 'You Light Up My Life' was No.1 for 10 weeks.

Terry Jacks. Terry Jacks recorded with his wife Susan Jacks as the Poppy Family and had a hit with 'Which Way You Going Billy?'.
Bobby Bloom . “Montego Bay” reached the Top 10 in the United States and the Top 3 in the United Kingdom in 1970.
The Buoys. The Buoys formed in the early 1970's. Their hit "Timothy," was written by Rupert Holmes and reached the Top 20 in 1971.
Brewer and Shipley. Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley didn't begin their musical careers together. However, they teamed up in 1971 to make the hit "One Toke Over the Line," a song with marijuana-related lyrics.
Brownsville Station. "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" reached number 3 in 1973 in the U.S. charts, and made the UK Top 20 the next year. They disbanded a short time later.
Hot Butter. I couldn't find anything of interest about this song, other than how unusual it was! It came out in 1972.

Clint Holmes . Paul Vance, who was Johnny Mathis' producer, approached Clint Holmes about doing this song. Paul's son, Phillip, was the little boy's voice. It was released in 1973.

Paper Lace. Paper Lace was a one hit wonder in the US, but actually had 2 hits in England. They did "Billy Don't Be A Hero" in 1974. Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods released their version of it in the US. "The Night Chicago Died" was on the charts in 1974.
Terry Jacks . Born in 1953,in Winnipeg, Canada, Terry Jacks was a former member of the hit group The Poppy Family. While working in the studio with the Beach Boys, he attempted to persuade them to record "Le Moribund", a song about a dying man by French composer Jacques Brel. When the group declined, Jacks himself recorded the English translation by Rod McKuen, retitled "Seasons In The Sun", in 1974.
Vicki Lawrence. While a member of the singing group, "The Young Americans," a journalist reviewing a concert mentioned Lawrence's resemblance to Carol Burnett. Vicki sent the clipping to Burnett, which won her an audition to Carol's popular show, from which she was accepted as a cast member. She hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop charts for two weeks with this song,in 1973, written by then-husband Bobby Russell.
Carl Douglas. This song hit #1 in the U.S. and the U.K. in 1974. This Jamaican-born singer currently resides in Germany where he runs a publishing company.
B. W. Stevenson. The song was covered by the popular country duo, Brooks & Dunn, in 1996 and made that #1 on the country charts. Quite frankly, the remake is better than the original.
Norman Greenbaum. The song hit #1 in 1970 but was unable to follow up with any more hit singles. He has since retired from performing. Greenbaum currently lives Petaluma, California where he lives off royalties from the song and runs a delicatessen which is aptly titled "Norm's".
The Buggles. The song was a #1 hit in the U.K. and in Australia in 1979 but barely cracked the Top 40 in the U.S. The video to the song, however, gained notoriety two years later as being the first video shown on MTV on August 1, 1981.
Stevie Nicks. Stewart was a member of Kingston Trio from 1961-67 and also composed the hit "Daydream Believer" for the Monkees. In the 70s he briefly teamed up with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
Yvonne Elliman. The #1 song was written by the Bee Gees and featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
Starland Vocal Band. The song was known for it's sexually suggestive lyrics but it was, nonetheless, a smash due to its harmless soft rock sound. It is regarded as the most popular song of all time for karaoke couples.
Jean Knight. This New Orleans native hit the top of the pop and the R&B charts in 1971 with the song. She occasionally does concerts with Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor.
