March Madness 2004
St. Joseph's. St. Joe's had the number one seed in the East Rutherford region. St. Joe's was also the only undefeated NCAA men's basketball team for the 2004 season.
UCF. The University of Pittsburgh played the University of Central Florida in the first round.
BYU. Syracuse played BYU in the first round of the Phoenix region.
t. Wake Forest was the number four seed in the West Rutherford division.
t. Dayton was seeded 10th and DePaul was seeded 7th in the Phoenix region.
They did not make it to the tournament in 2004.. Florida State University did not make it into the 2004 tournament.
Arizona. Seton Hall was seeded 8th and Arizona was seeded 9th in the Atlanta region.
Manhattan. 12th seeded Manhattan beat number 5 seed UF 75 - 60 in the very first game of the tournament.
Texas - San Antonio. Stanford beat Texas - San Antonio 71 - 45.
Alabama State. Alabama State was destroyed by Duke. The score was 96 - 61, with Duke outscoring Alabama State 48 - 27 in the first half.
Syracuse. BYU lost to defending champions Syracuse in the first round. The game ended 80 - 75, but both teams scored exactly 42 points in the first half.
Maryland. Maryland defeated University of Texas-El Paso, 86-83.
UCF. The University of Cantral Florida Golden Knights put up a great game against an outstanding Pitt team. The final score, 53 - 44 is misleading, as it was a very close game.
Northern Iowa. Georgia Tech beat Northern Iowa 65 - 60.
Notre Dame. Many believed that Notre Dame should have received an NCAA Tournament bid because of their impressive 9-7 record in the Big East, which was ranked as the third best conference in the NCAA Division 1.
CBS. CBS had shown the tournament for some years prior, and had the only live cable coverage of the NCAA Tournament in 2004.

Duke. Stanford was surprisingly knocked out in the second round, and St. Joes was eliminated in the Elite Eight. UConn was not a #1 seeded team.

San Antonio, Texas. The championship and Final Four had rotated to different U.S. city every year in the past.
Emeka Okafor. Emeka played for the UConn Huskies, who won the 2004 National Championship.
UConn, Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech defeated Oklahoma St., and UConn defeated Duke to get to the Championship game.
