March Madness 2005
Alabama. UW-Milwaukee beat Alabama 83-73. Pacific beat Pitt, but Pitt was the nine seed and Pacific had the eight seed. Notre Dame did not even make the tournament in 2005.
Winthrop. The score at the end of the game was Gonzaga 74, Winthrop 64, but Winthrop was leading through the half.
Syracuse. Vermont beat Syracuse in an overtime win. Vermont's coach, Tom Brennan, was scheduled to retire in 2005. This was a huge win for him and for Vermont.
Iowa. Cincinnati beat Iowa 76 - 64. Cincinnati played Kentucky in the second round.
LSU. UAB defeated LSU 82 - 68. UAB was an 11 seed and LSU was a sixth seed.
Duke. Delaware State lost to Duke 57 - 46. Duke was the number one seeded team in the Austin division.

1. Bucknell shocked Kansas in a 64 - 63 win. Bucknell was the 14th seed, and Kansas was the third seed in the Syracuse division.
UT - Chatanooga. UT - Chatanooga lead Wake Forest at the half 27 - 24. Wake came back in the second half outscoring them by 19 points. The final score was 54 - 70 in favor of Wake Forest, but it was a close game until the last couple of minutes.
Wake Forest - West Virginia. West Virginia beat number two seed, Wake Forest in a double overtime victory. The final score was 111 - 105.
Texas Tech. Texas Tech beat Gonzaga in the second round 71 - 69. Gonzaga was the number three seed in the Albuquerque region.

Pacific. Washington eaily beat Pacific in the second round. The final score was 97 - 79.
t. In a much closer game than the score suggests, the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee upset Boston College 75 - 83.
UAB. Arizona had a convincing victory over UAB. The score was 85 - 63.
Louisville. Louisville (#4 seed) defeated Washington 79 - 93 in the Sweet Sixteen.
Michigan State. The final score was 78 - 68 when Tom Izzo's Michigan State team knocked the #1 seed, Duke, out of the tournament. It was Izzo's first win ever against a team coached by Mike Krzyzewski.
0. None of the Sweet Sixteen games ended in overtime, but both of the Saturday night elite eight games ended in overtime.
Wisconsin. North Carolina beat Wisconsin 88 - 82 on March 27. It was the final for the Syracuse region.
Michigan State. Michigan State scored 94 points in double-overtime against Kentucky. Louisville scored 93 points in single overtime against West Virginia.
3. Three of the four games went into overtime and the Kentucky - Michigan State game went into double-overtime. Only the Wisconsin - North Carolina game ended in regulation.
North Carolina. North Carolina beat Michigan State 87 - 71, and Illinois beat Louisville 72 - 57. The final four took place on April 2.

Sean May. Sean May had 108 points in his first five games in the tournament. Francisco Garcia and Rashad McCants were tied for fourth overall with 88 points each. Paul Davis had 84 points in his five games and Salim Stoudamire (of Arizona) had 73 points and only played in four tournament games.
University of North Carolina. UNC beat Illinois 75-70 on April 4th. This was the first time Roy Williams had won a NCAA championship.
Oakland and Alabama A&M. Oakland won the game 79-69.
Florida. The Gators were a #4 seed in the Syracuse bracket.
Chicago, Albuquerque, Syracuse, and Austin. St. Louis was where the championship and final four games were played.

4. Arizona, UCLA, Stanford, and Washington made the tournament, with UW clinching a #1 seed.
Florida. Florida had a #4 seed, Alabama a #5, LSU a #6, and Duke a #1, but Duke played in the ACC.
28. UNC defeated Oakland.
