NCAA Football by Season
Larry Johnson. Johnson from Penn State, amassed over 2,000 total all purpose yards in 2002.

Ron Zook. Although the Gators still had a fine season, many fans grew impatient with Zook, demanding he be replaced.
Joe Paterno. Paterno, the longtime coach of Penn State's Nittany Lions, complained several times about the quality of the officiating during the season. At one point, a referee doll was hung in effigy outside Paterno's home. He also ran the whole way across the field after the Iowa-Penn State game, to catch up to a referee and tell him what he thought of his calls.
Ohio State and Iowa. Ohio State and Iowa avoided one another in conference play in 2002, allowing each team to go 8-0 in conference play.
Ohio State. The Buckeyes beat Miami 31-24 in the Fiesta Bowl, capping a 14-0 season, and winning their first national title since 1968.
Tostitos. Late in the season, many fans could be seen wearing tortilla chip hats to promote the big game.
Michael Doss. Doss, the starting strong safety for Ohio State and a three-time All-American, was second on the Buckeyes in tackles and made several big plays in important games, to preserve OSU's undefeated regular season.
Independent. Utah State is one of just a few teams who has no conference affiliation. Other such teams include Notre Dame, South Florida, and Navy.
Jammal Lord. Lord, the latest in a long line of speedy Nebraska quarterbacks, took the job and led the Husker's to their most disappointing season in recent memory.
Alabama. Alabama rallied behind coach Dennis Franchione, and fought the entire season even though they were not eligible to win the SEC or go to a bowl game. Coach Franchione broke the hearts of many 'Bama fans, when he left his post to take over as the head coach at Texas A&M.
Miami. Miami went undefeated after beating Nebraska in the Rose Bowl.
Eric Crouch. Eric Crouch had a great season for Nebraska only losing one game the whole season. It was the closest polling in the history of the Heisman Trophy.
Maryland. This was the first time Maryland won the ACC in 18 years. They were the first team to dethrone Florida St. since they entered the league.
Oregon. They were in the center of a big controversy including them, Colorado, and Nebraska. Colorado already beat Nebraska earlier in the season and were thought to go to the Rose Bowl, but they had lost two games. Oregon only lost one game like Nebraska but the BCS system nominated Nebraska for the Rose Bowl.

Texas. At the start of the season the Texas head coach started Chris Simms, which shocked everybody and had a controversy. Later in the season, playing Colorado in a crucial game, Simms threw several interceptions until Applewhite came in almost coming back and winning from a big deficit. He played in Texas' bowl game and came back in a great game to win.
Hurricanes. Naturally they are called the hurricanes because it is in southern Florida.
BYU. BYU wasn't even ranked before the season started.
Ken Dorsey . Ken Dorsey led Miami to an undefeated season and winner of the Rose Bowl.
Kevin Fant. Kevin Fant was the QB for the Bulldogs. He threw 10 tds and 9 ints.
Michael Galbreath. Galbreath led the Mean Green of North Texas to their first ever Bowl win vs Cincinnati.
Tanardo Sharps. Tanardo ranked second all-time at Temple among rush yards in 2002.
Jon Beutjer. It was Beutjer's first year starting at Illinois.
Darian Durant. Darian missed part of the tail end of the season due to injury.
UTEP. UTEP played in Conference USA. As the name suggests, UTEP played its home games in EL Paso, Texas, at the Sun Bowl.
New Mexico. New Mexico played in the Mountain West Conference. New Mexico played its home games in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at University Stadium.
Florida. Florida played in the Southeastern Conference. Florida played its home games in Gainesville, Florida, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium or "The Swamp".
Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech played in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech played its home games in Atlanta, Georgia, at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Iowa. Iowa played in the Big Ten. Iowa played its home games in Iowa City, Iowa, at Kinnick Stadium.
Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh played in the Big East Conference. Pittsburgh played its home games in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at Heinz Field.
