Staples. Staples Center replaced the Great Western Forum as the home ice of the Los Angeles Kings in 1999. Air Canada. Air Canada Centre was feted by its victorious primary tenants on back to back nights. The Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens on February 20, 1999, while the Toronto Raptors of the NBA beat the then-Vancouver Grizzlies the following night. The arena was built on the site of the former Canada Post Delivery Building, near the famed Union Station. St. Petersburg Times. Opened as the Ice Palace in 1996, the St. Pete Times Forum was the third home of the Tampa Bay Lightning franchise. Immediately before playing at the Forum, the Lightning played their home games at the Thunderdome (later known as Tropicana Field). Bell Canada. Replacing the historic Montreal Forum as the home of the Canadiens, Bell Centre opened in 1996 as Molson Centre.
