New Zealand
With the competition being nationwide, which club got its name on the Chatham Cup in September 2008 for the first time? | New Zealand Soccer
|
East Coast Bays. Missing out in either the last eight or last four during its previous prior seasons saw the all-blue Bays boys finally crack the 2008 final. They defeated Dunedin Technical 1-0 at North Harbour before an overwhelmingly pro-Bays local crowd.
Which of New Zealand's seven federations inflicted an extremely unpopular "local football only" season on its clubs in 2008? | New Zealand Soccer
|
United Soccer 1. Against the monumental opposition of his clubs, driven US1 CEO Keith Johnston decreed that US1 clubs would play football in their own local "premiership" in 2008. It quickly became a predictable farce. Lacking real opposition represented by the inclusion of AFF and Force Three's elite clubs, prior to its cup triumph, East Coast Bays sleepwalked through the season to remain undefeated.
Announced as 1200 by New Zealand Football as the number that attended the Waitakere United versus Auckland City New Zealand Football Championship match in 2006, what was the more accurate number estimated by some players in the match? | New Zealand Soccer
|
150. Thankfully on the cusp of a return to a club-based national league, the eight franchise national league clubs of the NZFC regularly had their attendance figures grossly exaggerated by New Zealand Football. This match was no exception. The franchise league attracted nothing like the popularity or following enjoyed by its club-based counterpart.
Prior to its dismantling by US1 CEO Johnston, how many of his US1 clubs were in the 12-team three-federation Northern Premier Soccer League? | New Zealand Soccer

Metro FC. If this strip isn't one of the best looking in the world.
Which Wellington team plays in Inter-Milan's blue and black vertical stripes, black, and black strip? | New Zealand Soccer
|
Miramar Rangers. Sorry, a good-looking strip too, but lacks the "lift" that the red lends. Suffers a bit under floodlights too, in my opinion.
Which English-born player, banned for life once for head-butting a referee following a match, somewhat unbelievably went on to briefly coach both the New Zealand national team, and its only professional team, the then Football Kingz? | New Zealand Soccer
|
Ken Dugdale. Originally banned for life, only to see that sentence essentially reduced to a slap on the hand with a wet bus ticket given the offence. Little baldy Dugdale must surely consider himself a very lucky man to have got back into the game.
Which New Zealand keeper also played for Wigan Athletic's first-team in England? | New Zealand Soccer

Scott Bishop. Although there is a suggestion that Peter Whiting also had some limited success in England, and Mark Paston also enjoyed some success in England and Scotland, Bishop signed on for Wigan and played as number-one before a horrific training accident wrecked his UK career.
Manama. Manama in Bahrain also hosts a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
0-0. Mark Paston, the New Zealand goalkeeper was in fine form and made several vital saves to keep Bahrain scoreless despite their dominance of possession. Bahrain also hit the wood work in the 2nd half .. and even had the ball in the back of the net a few minutes nefore the end of the game, but the referee disallowed the "goal" for a foul in the lead-up!
Wellington. 35,000 fans rocked the "Cake Tin" in Wellington to witness New Zealand's finest soccer moment since the 1982 World Cup finals in Spain. The crowd of 35,194 was not only a record for a New Zealand international home match, it was a record crowd for any soccer match in NZ.

This match was Fallon's third international game for New Zealand. Although a Kiwi by birth, Fallon had previously chosen to play for the country of his father's birth, and represented England as a youth international (Under 16s through to Under 20), but a change in FIFA regulations in June 2009 allowed him to play for New Zealand at full-international level.
