      April 18, 1923. On February 6, 1921, the Yankees announced that they had purchased ten acres of land in the Bronx, on which they planned to build a new stadium. Prior to that they had been sharing the Polo Grounds, across the river, with the NL team New York Giants. The new stadium hosted the World Series in its first year of existence, with the Yankees beating the Giants.
