Seth Armstrong. Stan Richards grew up in a mining village and worked as a Ministry of Labour clerk when he left school. He played Seth Armstrong from 1978, as an odd job man and then became a poacher-turned gamekeeper.

Joe Sugden. Joe Sugden was Jack's younger brother. He appeared in the first episode of "Emmerdale" in 1972 and was a regular cast member up until he left in 1994.
Chris Tate. Peter Amory trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and he landed the part of Chris Tate in 1989. He married Claire King in 1994, who played his on screen stepmother Kim Tate.
Pat Merrick. Jack married divorcée Pat Merrick in 1982. They had been childhood sweethearts but they split up when they were teenagers. She had two children, Sandie and Jackie, the latter of which turned out to be Jack's.
Vet. Zoe Tate arrived in "Emmerdale" after her father Frank and stepmother Kim had bought Home Farm. She had just graduated from a veterinary school in Edinburgh and had landed a job with a local vet in Hotten.
Benidorm. Terry and Brit were brought in by Alan Turner in 1995, to attract a wider clientele to the pub after Alan's financial problems. They saw this as their big chance to bring the pub more into the 20th century, but Alan always made it clear he was still the boss.
1993. On December 30, 1993 a plane crashed into the village killing four regular characters. The characters who were killed were Archie Brooks, Elizabeth Pollard, Mark Hughes and Leonard Kempinski.
