Dennis Dugan. Dennis Dugan also plays Maddie's husband in an earlier ill-conceived storyline. He went on to direct in TV and some pretty big films, including one of my guilty pleasures, "Saving Silverman".
Her Aunt Ruth. Some viewers may have wanted it to be her cousin Annie but too bad...Interestingly Aunt Ruth apparently rose from the dead when she was mentioned as a dinner companion by Maddie's mother in a later episode!
Bert. His middle name is Quentin.
Vases. They are mirror images of each other. When you see the doorway from inside the room, there is one painting immediately on the right, one on the left.

Kamikaze. Maddie nurses just the glass of white wine, as Agnes downs three double kamikazes in no time flat.

His wife Rita had an art class. After Alan's wife Rita is found dead, Alan wonders how he's going to break the news to the kids. They were staying with their grandmother because Rita went to art class that night.
